[quote="wpcoe"]It may be pure coincidence, but at about this same time last year, rust-color water was delivered from the municipal water supply on Soi 80, and today it has started again. Both times, naturally, I found out via a washing machine full of laundry.

I too live up soi 80 and regularly encounter this problem. I have added a german water filter which was far too expensive and did not work so i just put an extra 2000litre tank :banghead:
I am hoping (according to local rumours) that within 6 months we shall be getting a new local water supply.
FYI i've had to throw away my washing machine !!

Cost about 4,000 with filter, and new filters about 1,200. A filter will last a year unless your water is from the black lagoon of hell.

Red turn valve on the right cuts water to the unit. The blue lower canister just unscrews after releasing pressure via the red button visible on top. After cleaning and re-affixing, open red feed valve about halfway and hold down pressure button to release air as unit is filling. Pete

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the filter and canister should be cleaned (hose rinse) about every 2 weeks.

Where can i buy one of these filters , looks like exactly what we need ...when have water that is ! Big Kiang , maybe ?

^ We got ours at Home pro over here in Rayong but I'm sure any large hardware chain in HH will have them. I've noticed that they have evolved in appearance so you may not find one looking exactly as in the photo, but they will be similar and serve the same purpose.

A new item just for everyone's info. We discovered at my place that the city water meter has an in line screen mesh sieve on the city supply side directly in the pipe end before the water reaches the meter. I guess this is to protect the meter from any really big junk coming through the lines. Unfortunately we tend to get klong grass fragments from time to time probably caused by messy pipe maintenance. Sure enough, twice now in the past 2 years it has clogged and stopped water flow completely. So, if you have no water and your neighbors do, this is something to check. Pete

You might want to check for small fresh water molluscs too. They seem to multiply and clog up water inlets and filters!

You are better off buying water equipment at a water specialist shop. Try the place, "Pure Water", I think it is called, right opposite Index Mall going north on Petchkasem Rd.

I'm inching closer to buying a filter like that, but have a question about placing it between the meter and the tank. That sounds ideal in that it would keep the crap from coating the inside of the tank, but... With the often low water pressure from the street to the tank -- some times it's just a dribble -- would that make it through the filter okay? i.e. Would the filter halt a low pressure water flow into the tank? Until I read your recommendation, I assumed the filter would need to be between the pump and the house to make sure the water was pushed with enough force to make it through the filter.

(BTW, I assume my water configuration is standard? Street --> tank --> pump --> house)

You could put it between the pump and the house but your tank would then get the full attack of dirty water and eventually become a mess. Our water here street to tank becomes a trickle usually between 0600 and 0800 each morning as the population begins their day. We've never had any problems with the filter stopping the flow. I have an inline filter and its installed just before the pump. I have not noticed any discernible difference in flow at any time of the day, even when the flow from the external hosepipe is just a dribble, but presume that's because the water going to the pump is drawn from an underground 1600 litre tank?

Thanks. The water here is at a trickle/dribble much of the day, it seems. The tank is right outside my door and I hear it. But, as long as it's enough to make it through the filter, that's all I care about. I guess if I tackle this project, I should also somehow scrub down the inside of the tank. The drain cock on the bottom is corroded so badly that I can't even drain off the bottom sludge. I don't think previous residents ever did, hence the stationary cock valve.

A side note Wpoce and others....disaster has struck, we reached the point where the filter pictured on previous page was overwhelmed. We started to notice a bit of colour in the water coming from the tank. I had just cleaned the filter the previous week so I knew it was in good condition. Removing the canister I found 4" of wet, sticky mud in the bottom of it. Checking with others it appears that something dire happened during a repair of the street lines somewhere in the town and a great deal of loose dirt entered the system, subsequently mixing with water to make mud. All of the 60 houses in my development are in the process of getting their tanks cleaned as a result.

So, this filter can get overwhelmed, and with what happened here I can see where any type of filter no matter how sophisticated would as well, or at least stop flow completely. My day's activitiy has now been set.....tank pumping and cleaning. :( Pete

Yes, we got that muck in our water system a few weeks ago but has since cleared up. Unless you get one of the big fancy systems from Pure you will be constantly at the mercy of the incoming water. We have one of the cartridge filter types on the incoming water to our tanks and it gets most of the brown slime out but certainly not all of it.

One way to insure there is a flow into the filter then onward to the tank is to install an additional pump after the meter and before the filter and tanks. We did this so we could water our yard and it insures enough pressure to get through the filter into the tanks. Only turn on when we want to water the yard though as if the incoming water is turned off (as it often does) the pump will run and eventually will burn out. Put a switch on the pump so you can turn on when necessary. There seems to be enough pressure without the pump on to get water into the tanks ok as the pressure goes up at night when nobody is using water.

This is not only very bad practice, it is also against the law, but like everything else, it is not enforced. You run the risk of sucking all sorts of debris and muck into your system. Not only from nearby, but from you neighbours.
If there is a problem with sediment in the supply the correct way to treat it is a "primary" settling tank directly after the meter. Your pump suction then should be arranged so that it is well above the bottom of this tank, so that material in suspension can settle out and not be pumped any further. From there the house service pump should be before any filters or water treatment equipment. For a garden service there should be a completely seperate pump that again has its sucton off the bottom of the settling tank.

Bringing up an old post since it is still relevant where we live. We live in Soi 94 and now the water is again dirty. It has a brownish color and this is exactly what happened last year too. In this thread the OP says it happened around May 5th. in 2012, and now I have seen two years in a row that the water has deteriorated in quality and color in April/May. My questions are, Do anyone else experience the same and do anyone here know what is going on since this is a reoccurring issue nearly every year it seems?

I have heard some people say cleaning of pipes and some says digging and installing new pipes, but NO ONE can confirm ANYTHING! Do anyone know what is going on?
