Air raid siren in Hua Hin?

Post by 2dandan »

About 8.16am this morning an air raid siren went off somewhere in the town. It blew continiously for about 2 mins before stopping. I’ve never heard this before.

Is it normal or are we getting invaded?

Did Hua Hin install a tsunami warning siren? If so it may have been a periodic test.

We do have a siren, but if it sounded this morning, I'd have probably drowned - I didn't hear a thing.

Maybe the tsunami warning gods have been watching the new 4 part documentary Tsunami: Race Against Time.

The fact is that it's virtually impossible for HH to be hit by a tsunami.

After the 2004 Tsunami they did install a warning siren in Hua Hin, it's down by the back of the Centara.

There it goes again. It’s on right now.

Edit….it went off about 2 seconds after I pressed the submit button. It was on for about 2 mins.

I can't hear a thing. I'm just off Soi 94. Where are you?

I guess if its a citywide test, it has failed.

I’m in Khao Noi. Sound relatively faint but coming from the town area.

So what is the purpose of this 'air raid' siren? It can't be to warn of a tsunami as the chances of that are pretty much zero. It sounded recently which of course was ignored, so why have it?

Is it to warn if more than 1000 Chinese tourists arrive in HH in one day?

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it’s a duck….right.

Not in this case. I heard an “air raid siren” and convinced myself that could have been the only source of that noise, but, in my defence it was windy and the wind partially obscured the noise and distance.

I heard the same “air raid siren” today several times but am now of the opinion it is some sort of power tool working intermittently about 2 streets away. It still sounds like an “air raid siren” though.

Apologies for causing mass panic and emergency rations at the ready waiting for the tsunami.

What time was this? Was it shortly after BB finished his full English breakfast?
