As I am a regular beach-walker I liked having the tide tables. AWOL had weekly info. I always think that Hua Hin Today should really be called Hua Hin Last Month

If anyone is interested in this kind of stuff you can see Admiralty tide predictions for almost any area in the world on their website. It’s free - pay no notice to registering or signing in.

If wanting to compare the Admiralty predictions to the Thailand links in the previous post go tp: http://www.ukho.gov.uk/EASYTIDE/EasyTide/index.aspx > under "Get FREE tidal predictions" click “[url] FREE predictions/url]” > under “Select a port on the map or choose from the list” click “Areas” > for Thaiand West Coast choose “5. Red Sea, the Gulf & Indian Ocean” and “Thailand West Coast” - or for around here chose “6. Singapore to Japan & Philipines” and “Thailand” > click “Show ports” > click a port and see the tables plus a helpful weekly tidal prediction chart.

The tides are shown as a bit higher because the Admiralty bases tide height as comparison to Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT) = lowest possible theoretical tide. But tables from other countries use other datum, like NOAA (USA) calculates from mean lower low water (MLLW) = average of the lowest tide recorded over a certain period of time at the given area.

Small time differences between different tables are noticable too. Long term tide tables are just theoretical predictions based principally on predicted astronomical influence of the sun and moon phase gravitational pull. Plus or minus locally observed differences that occur due to distance and free or restricted flow from the open ocean. So local tables that are carefully computed with a generous portion of local knowledge and observation can somtimes be closer to actuality than the Admiralty or NOAA ones that are computed in big offices 1/2 way around the world. Meteorological effects like wind and other short-term weather events can throw any predictions way off. Especially in large bodies of shallow water like we have here in the Gulf of Thailand.
