Scottish mans death in Hua Hin

Post by Stornoway »

Hello
New to forum, I hope this is correct place to post.
I recently returned to Scotland, and I heard an old school friend died in Hua Hin on Saturday last.

Does anyone have any of the details, as I can't find anything on news or online media

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum.

I think more information is required. i.e. age, places he visited, location of where he lived.

Stornoway, I've just this morning learned of something that happened in the early hours(02:45) of Friday morning which resulted in the death of a 39 year old Scotsman.

There is a link to the story here but it is in Thai: http://www.banmuang.co.th/news/crime/13100

His name is written in Thai and difficult to read, but I think his name is Ian McCrae or something close to that.

He was drunk and was trying to meet his ex-gf who now owns a shop here in Hua Hin, he went to the shop but couldn't find her, in a drunken rage he started wrecking the place, police were alerted but by the time they arrived he was lying in a pool of his own blood. He had kicked the front window of the store and severed 2 arteries in his legs from the broken glass. They rushed him to the hospital but he later passed away.

I don't know the tragic person who lost their life but I do know the female owner of the store, and know she is distraught.

RIP

Most of that is based on an interview conducted in English with a Thai who clearly doesn't have much English.

I don't think the Thai police are trying to lie about when it happened, the article I posted was published on the Friday evening. Also I believe something else lost in translation was that it was actually the glass door/front of the shop as opposed to a mirror on the wall.

Hua Hin - British Man in Fatal Arguement

Post by pharvey »

The "Daily Mail" I know, but has anyone heard anything on this?

British Man Bleeds to Death on Smashed Mirror in Thailand Following Row With Girlfriend

* Iain Mackay, 40, saw his Thai girlfriend talking to another man in a bar
* Trio reportedly got into a furious argument at the coastal Hua Hin resort
* Shortly afterwards Mr Mackay appeared in a nearby shop bleeding heavily
* Was suffering injuries caused by shards of glass from a smashed mirror
* Paramedics were called to the scene but he died in hospital hours later

A British man has bled to death in Thailand after sustaining injuries from a smashed mirror following a furious row with his Thai girlfriend.
Iain Mackay, 40, is understood to have got into a fight at the Hua Hin resort, 125 miles south of Bangkok, after discovering the woman chatting with another man at a bar in the coastal city.
Although the exact circumstances of his death are not yet known, the underwater research specialist from Stornoway in Scotland is said to have appeared in a nearby shop a short time later suffering fatal injuries caused by shards of glass from a smashed mirror.

I am currently back in Glasgow for easter, and a similar article to the one above is also published in todays Scottish Daily Record. It does not mention a fight, only that he died from shards of glass from either a mirror or window which were smashed. The final paragraph mentions that the British consulate have notified the family of the deceased man,but no further information is available.

I have just seen one of the first response paramedic's Facebook post from Friday around 8pm, he included a few photos that I'd rather not share. He added a description saying roughly the following: 'received a call from the police around 3am to go and treat a wound, we didn't think it was anything too serious, but when we arrived quickly realised it was nothing like what we imagined, we tried our utmost and done everything we could' he goes on to express condolences.

There is then a discussion between friends, when asked what happened by one friend he states he doesn't know, the person was unconscious when they arrived and the police were not giving them any details, this was around 8:30. However by about 10:30pm(possibly start of shift?) He says the news from the police is that he was crazy drunk, as in wild, crazy destructive drunk.

Patty, the owner of the store Master Cues where it happened, has been interviewed in today's Daily Record:

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scott ... ho-5470124

The photo provided(all 3 of them friends of mine) is not actually taken at Master Cues at all. Also, they are still reporting he kicked a mirror on the wall which is not the case.

Tragic, terrible accident indeed. Let's hope his family and friends will now be allowed to grieve without any further controversial unfounded conspiracy theories suggesting there was any foul play.

Sounds to me like he was murdered, I don't see how someone could bleed to death from cutting themselves on a glass door.
But I really don't know, TiT.

None of us really know, which is why all this idle speculation is so useless and potentially hurtful to his family.
I have to say, though, that one of the likely results of putting your leg through a glass door is bleeding to death from a cut artery.

If he was, as reported, drunk, then he may well have lost his balance whilst kicking out at the window and fallen onto a protruding shard of glass, severing the femoral artery which runs along the top and inner thigh.

A severed femoral artery will usually cause death within a minute or two, as it can be impossible to stop the bleeding.
