Re: Presenting IDP at police checkpoints
Home licenses 'MAY' be accepted, at the discretion of the officer. IF he/she/it is fluent enough in English, and feels comfortable and knowledgeable enough to even know what the foreign license looks like, then yes, it may be accepted. If not, then the IDP is accepted, as all anyone has to do is loo...

Re: Some Bangkok Embassies to stop Certification of Income Letters
On mandatory insurance coverage as a condition to stay, I'm quite happy that has never been instituted. I've never had, wanted or needed health insurance, and would hate to have to buy a product, that I'll never need, or be more expensive than the cost of simply paying myself, out of pocket, IF ever...

Re: Tips for recycling and reducing plastic use in Thailand
I'm surprised, since quite a bit if farming (pigs), that the 'slop' / leftover, unused food, both from restaurants and markets, aren't saved and given / sold to the pig farmers. When in US Army, on base, all mess scrap, unused, spoiled food, went into the 'slop' bin, then to the 'slop' truck and car...

Re: Presenting IDP at police checkpoints
The police have stated more than once that a photo(copy) of your passport is acceptable and the physical document can be produced, if required, at a later date. Nothing said about other documents though. I pretty much don't listen to what people state. It's what the written law states that matter. ...

I must say that I am finding that your daily posts (from behind the anonymity of the forum) are becoming tedious. .....not that anonymous at all, if reading post and can research, could probably find pictures of myself, many actually of self and family, and or my exact location You seem to be sayin...

Re: Presenting IDP at police checkpoints
Don't know why you would think a photo, of a photo ID, any ID, PP or IDP would be accepted. PPs and IDPs (if operating) are to be carried. Accepting anything other than, is at the discretion of the officer. So did they ticket you, if so, with option to produce IDP at station to void out ? Driving a ...

Re: Tips for recycling and reducing plastic use in Thailand
You're not going to trust the 'bullshit' numbers, as you say, that TAT / tourism authority spew out, but you're going to believe someone that says, they don't dump in the sea. :banghead: https://goo.gl/W12jk2 We'll have to agree to disagree  Thailand is among the world’s worst. It is the six...

They don't dump in the sea .... that's funny. I did link an article stating quite the opposite. If not dumping at sea.....
... then where are those 'mysterious', discovered 'trash islands' coming from ?
Not a mystery to me.

OK...again
Where do you think, the trash collected, actually goes ?
150 tons a day from HH alone. Does anyone think it stays at the 2 landfills in the HH area that I mentioned already.
If so, we'd be able to see that mountain of trash from our homes.

Re: Tips for recycling and reducing plastic use in Thailand
Little tiny molecules of plastic get ingested by small sea creatures that goes all the way up the food chain. Then the solution, for all of us, is quite easy, if one cares that much. Buy all your food needs from the fresh market, and bring your re-usable container with you. Fairly eliminating any o...

Re: Tips for recycling and reducing plastic use in Thailand
Would guess 99 % comes from the gov't dumping in the sea. More utter bullshit. We have just had another flood down in Bangsaphan and 90% of the shit that went into the sea has been washed off the land where dumbass people have thrown it. What percentage of trash in the gulf was from that one storm,...

Re: Tips for recycling and reducing plastic use in Thailand
I agree, in 'THEORY'.... plastic should be banned. Even the production of it. Then you wouldn't have to worry about disposing it. But since the gov't disposes, in non eco friendly ways, seriously, what's the point of collecting it, they / gov't just does the same thing, that people think they are pr...

Then I hope they have quality health insurance in case they get sick. So the hospital doesn't yet again, get stiffed by another foreigner. Part of the reason Imm makes sure we can finance our stay as guest, completely finance our stay, including an oops or 2. Sh*t does happen. If living check to che...

Re: Tips for recycling and reducing plastic use in Thailand
Where do you think the rubbish at sea and on the beaches come from? Rains, floods, drains .....!! Would guess 99 % comes from the gov't dumping in the sea. The plastic bag littered on Phetkasem rd isn't going make it to the gulf by wind itself. Municipalities, larger one, actully do a decent job of...
