I get up at 5.30 2 or 3 times a week and cycle a round trip of between 15 & 20 km. Seeing early morning lfe, the monks on their rounds, cockerals belting their lungs out and the odd fellow cyclist or two saying good morning - nothing like it. As for keeping in shape - well I'm still very round! ...

Thai Seafood Restaurant on the Beach

Try 'Apple' or Apen as the Thai's call it. Go down to the beach alongside the Anantasila Hotel at Takiab and it's on the right hand side on the beach. Concrete tables, rafia / tin roof supported by concrete posts. Food is great quality, only singh and heineken + soft drinks, but the food is cheap as...

Somewhere to float a boat

A couple of months ago I bought my two sons a pair of high powered recharchable electric speedboats. For them and this never grown up kid, they were great fun on my fishing ponds. However - I forgot just how sensitive fish are to high pitched noise in water and managed to murder a dozen or so of my ...

Train to Bangkok

Not quite the same journey, but for those interested in a rail trip with a little difference try BKK to KL (or vice versa) by train. I did KL to BKK late '98 when the missus was about to give birth to sprog No 1 and the plane was not an option. Travelled KTM 1st class from K.L. 07.00 to Bhukit Merta...

Snakes round lakes!

Hi Higgy

We used to see a lot when we started construction, but the lads have instructions to keep the grass down and now we have 4 daft dogs as security and licenced snake catchers!

For sure you will not find any around the edges of the lakes.

W'eve got a few eel in the lakes though!

Charley

Try the place operated by the blind as part of the Queens charity work. Located right next door to the fresh produce shop 'Golden Place' near the palace. Their English is not so good - so - neither is my Thai, but a better massage is difficult to find anywhere.

Snakes

I was once informed that there are 36 different varieties of snake in the Kingdom. 32 of which are venomous. As has been stated here before - they are more dangerous if startled and more scared of you than, you should be of them. A little tip - if you have an outhouse or any container in your garden...

Just to let you all know that Hua Hin Fishing Lodge will be open for day fishing from Monday July 3rd. I've not been able to get things moving as previously planned as I have been stuck working in Taiwan. Or shop / restaurant should be open around end of July but we can cater for food and drinks any...

Lev - thanks for the welcome - I will advertise more when ready. Burger I pulled a Kohor out on Friday and it weighed in at 4.2 kg. I would expect them to go 30+ They were fingerlings when they went in 15 months ago. Frankly, who knows how big they will get? There are more than 200 in there though. ...
