Re: Long weekend escape Thailand getaway ideas

I've been to Langkawi a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed the visits. The first time I went, my mother was in her late 80's and fully enjoyed the 10 day visit. Plenty to do and being a 'duty free' island, prices are somewhat cheaper than on the mainland. A decent video of the place. https://www...

Re: Car auctions

I believe repossessed cars are often claimed by the manufacturer for sale in their 'used car' dept. Certainly with Toyota, reclaimed cars are re-sold on 'Toyota Sure'. My daughter has just bought an 18 month old car (reclaimed) from Toyota Sure. I believe Honda and Mitsubishi have similar companies ...

Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline

some interesting temples, one in the shape of a boat.
I used to pass that daily. On the back road from Cha-Am to Petchaburi (I used to teach in Rajabhat University). The one time I visited while UK family were here, the temple was flooded!!! Something lacking in the 'boat design'.

Re: Internet speed

Downloaded a bunch of films from YTS this morning under ExpressVPN with speeds reaching 40+mbps and most averaging around 20.
Not found any problem with online news sites and TV packages. I'm using 3BB.

Re: Another alcohol clampdown

And will they give equal space promoting the benefits of alcohol. I doubt it. They will paint it as an evil. If you're in good shape, moderate drinking makes you 25% to 40% less likely to have a heart attack, stroke, or hardened arteries. This may be in part because alcohol can raise your HDL ("...

Re: Internet providers in Thap Tai

“The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has approved the acquisition of all shares of Triple T Broadband or 3BB (TTTBB) by Advanced Wireless Network (AWN) for it to become a subsidiary company of AIS . With both AIS and 3BB having a similar customer base, it makes sense ...

Re: Internet providers in Thap Tai

That does surprise me, BB. I've been with 3BB from the outset. Downtimes have been very few and is always sorted quickly, usually in less than an hour. Whenever an engineer is required they arrive the same day or the following morning if late. I've been on fibre for the last few years. The connectio...

Re: Internet connection

It would be wise to retain the name imo as 3BB has a somewhat better reputation than AIS.

Re: Has Lax Thai Policing Ever Helped You Out?

Talking of dashcams. Some years ago I was pulled over at a toll booth. I was told that I switched lanes from on toll booth to another. "I'm pretty sure I didn't but lets review it on my dashcam." Quickly changed his mind and waved me on. A year or so I was stopped on the road from 94 to 10...

Re: Another alcohol clampdown

Actually that's not true. The restriction does include bars and restaurants. There are exceptions in 'tourist areas' which of course includes Hua Hin. Timing: The ban is in effect from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, every day. Locations Affected: This ban applies to various types of establishments, including c...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

The signs are that hydrogen will replace EV's for long journeys leaving EV's as urban vehicles.
Of course that may never happen but we'll see.

Re: Another alcohol clampdown

Licencing hours were relaxed in the UK years ago and didn't lead to an increase in consumption. In fact consumption has been steadily decreasing since 2009. Therefore the argument that removing the restrictions in the afternoon will lead to increased drinking is nonsense.

Re: Poor exam results put Thai schools on the spot

I taught at university here for 3 years. The problem is the skills and attitudes of the teachers. Rote teaching is the norm where the teacher does the talking and students listen silently. Asking questions is not encouraged at all. Once my students got to know me, their chairs were arranged in a sem...

Re: Different Fuel Grades - How to Choose

It seems everyone knew but me. I don't travel to BKK very often but the trip there and back yesterday was the first time I'd noticed Bangchak. As you say, they appear to be taking over the world. It seemed like every other station was Bangchak!
