Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion

Which VPN works for which person seems to vary. Express VPN has been my go to without any issues, Nord has been binned as I got fed up constantly logging in and did not get on with the interface, my current backup is Surfshark which I don’t use much but works if I need it. I know that for others Nor...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

Is it possible to build an EV without using fossil fuel. Fair enough, the diesel or petrol is removed but what about the plastic used in its construction, lubricants used to keep it moving and the electricity it uses, all created using those same fossil fuels in most cases. Reducing emissions and th...

Perhaps they will finally close the chicken restaurant and make a car park there

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

I see a lot of the GWM Haval’s around although not sure how many are EV, HEV or PHEV but they obviously satisfy the local desire for PPV’s and their pricing is competitive. Being sceptical it would be nice to see how they handle accidents. The PHEV should offer an economical alternative for those wh...

Re: Wise formerly Transferwise

With all the furore over the taxing of foreign income I have not yet seen any comment or question about where Wise fit in as payment comes from a local account. I may have missed this or are people just keeping quiet. With the 800k in the bank the day to day funds would not be taxable if coming from...

Re: Whiskeys

Was in MV Lotus’s the other day and they have vastly improved the upper end whisky (in a locked case) on sale. A few varieties of Ardbeg to say the least.

Re: Agoda hotel descriptions warning

It sounds like my payment set up may be the issue, I tried via credit card and PayPal which are both a foreign source and both work for other purchases. I might set up another account with a different address to see if that is the issue. First I will see what their customer services have to say.

Re: Agoda hotel descriptions warning

With the best of intentions I used Google and yes, there was a 25% reduction but through either of the two companies (kayak and one other) I was redirected to agoda. Total waste of time as I was unable to complete and pay for it so back to booking.com and everything went smoothly. Agoda for me is fi...

Re: Agoda hotel descriptions warning

I now use booking.com as I was having problems paying using Agoda. Have even been able to change dates on non refundable bookings using booking.com which has saved me a lot. Not sure what happened to Agoda but I will not be using them all the time it is easier elsewhere and the costs are similar.

Re: (Don't) Wear a Mask Debate

I actually agree with mask wearing in medical facilities as it should help reduce the spread of disease and protect both patients and staff. It certainly has its place but the blanket approach for many here hints at a lack of the ability to reason (which after many years here comes as no surprise).

When will this Mask Madness end

While the rest of the world including China has moved on Thailand still continues with the mask madness. I can understand food outlet staff wearing masks as it probably stops numerous germs entering the food chain but watching the less than 50% of people wandering around masked up mingling with ever...

Re: The 10K Election Handout Farce

If they gave it to all Thais then I am sure the family would find a way for that given to the three grown up kids who live abroad to be used despite them living abroad. Not that they would dream of abusing a flawed system.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

Was in Shanghai a couple of days ago and surprised by how many EV’s there are. Also how much quieter busy roads are. Biggest menace are the electric scooters you don’t hear coming often on footpaths. First time doing any distance in an EV rather than a short taxi ride, motor noise was not too intrus...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand

The word resident appears in the BP article. Most of us I think are here on non-O visas so are not “resident” so is this likely to affect us at all. Also mentions 180 days so the snowbirds are probably not included too.
