Krup and Ka

The male polite particle, and the female polite particle. We hear them constantly and if you listen to a Thai radio broadcast or Thai tv report, you very well may hear them after every 5-6 words. To me it gets a bit excessive at times and seems like a huge waste of energy and communication efficienc...

Re: New book about His Majesty

It was sold out Mags within the first few days. We missed it at Asia Books and another place at Central, Pattaya and Bangkok by a day. We've ordered, and on the notify list when it comes in. February is what I'm told. Pete

Re: Passenger van crashes, 5 dead, 8 hurt

Yes, horrendous, Pete. The truck appears to half on the shoulder of the road, so maybe it was stopped. How the hell did the driver survive? It states the usual "fled the scene" on one of those reports. I almost put the "fled the scene" part in my opening post. Reading it again t...

Passenger van crashes, 5 dead, 8 hurt

This is horrific and the worst one I've seen in a long time. :( Go to the link for photos. The death toll is up to 6 now and people burned to death in there as they couldn't get them out. The container truck is in the left slow lane and all that I can surmise is that the van tried a left lane pass a...

Re: Thai Logic

As short story about some (hopefully many) Thais getting sick and tired of their own logic. Went with the wife to the Rayong DMV office yesterday to renew the registrations for a car and scooter. I sat down while she got in line. The line was down to 5 people when the one and only clerk behind the w...

Re: TV mini-series/HBO

I liked the British guy on the BBC who I can only describe as the drunk chef as I don't recall his name. I think he had a restaurant in Phuket as well and has perhaps passed away already? He would start the shows sober and be drunk as a skunk by the end. It was a mix or cooking and travel I ...

Re: Convenience stores on Petchkasem Rd

More 7/11's, I say, can't have too many of them! ....... You want to have some fun refer to 7-11 in a conversation with a Thai as "jet/sip-ett". I would say one in ten will catch the meaning and the others stand there dumbfounded until you tell them what you mean. "Ja, I'm go...
