Re: British weather

It would appear the meteorologists can't make up their mind. This from this morning's 'Mirror': Brits will be hit with a bout of summer heat within days as temperatures could hit the 20C mark. Londoners are set to see some of the warmest weather before warnings of unsettled conditions and showers se...

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand

Considering how hot it is here and the prospect of getting even hotter, I do smile at some weather headlines back in the UK.

Here's one from this morning:
UK hot weather: Full list of towns and cities set for scorcher as mercury soars to 20C
20C here is 'under the duvet' temperature!

Re: Thailand fuel/pump prices

30 to 34 is a 13% increase so you can expect the price of everything that needs to be transported by truck/bus/pickup to be hiked more than that to cover the rise in fuel costs Percentages!! I remember years ago when fuel went from 7 baht a litre to 9. Non Thais couldn't understand why a 2 baht inc...

Re: Chiang Mai Listed Where Couple Can Retire for US$1,500/month

Thanks for your input, BB. I mentioned the non-visible BIB, not because I'm doing anything wrong but just to show there's no 'shake-downs' which you sometimes get here. The friend I have in Nong Khai who has lived in Thailand for almost 30 years, made the move, literally on a whim. 15 years ago, he ...

Re: Chiang Mai Listed Where Couple Can Retire for US$1,500/month

I see and hear what you say, but I've always said it takes a very special type of person to live that way. Nongkhai isn't a village. It does have all the mod cons, bars (even farang owned), restaurants (and a good selection both farang and Thai), girls!, a very friendly farang population, Makro, Lo...

Re: Electricity and Water Charges

Not sure if this helps: A year ago a new law came into place that applies to rent properties in Thailand. Named the Thai Rental Law, it affects rental properties that form part of a business. Any person who owns in excess of five rental properties is now classed as a business operator who has a cont...

Re: Chiang Mai Listed Where Couple Can Retire for US$1,500/month

I guess it also depends on where you live. I visited a friend in NongKhai before Christmas. Planned for 3 days, stayed for 3 weeks. He rents a 2 bedroom house with Utility Room, Huge Kitchen/Diner, Large living room, Shower room, 2 toilets, garden, car port. He pays 2,500 baht p.m. It was pretty muc...

Re: Has Your Food Shopping Increased?

In general the 'cost of living' is much cheaper in Thailand even for 'farang' food. Tell me anywhere in the UK where you can get a full English for the same price as here.
I have no complaints.
