Re: foreign pedestrian killed ourside market village this afternoon

There is a 'on-request' traffic light at BKK Hospital--MUCH MUCH MUCH more need at MV As BB said, these lights are switched off more often than on. When they are switched on, believe it or not, I reckon that 95% of traffic does stop at the red lights. I passed the crossing at MV earlier this aftern...

Re: Oldest bar in hua hin

There were no bars in Soi 80 / Soi hotpot when I lived there before 2000, only the restaurant about half way up existed.

Re: Oldest bar in hua hin

I believe the first bar opened in the Bintabaht was where Da's bar is just now, on the corner opposite Pink Panther (which used to be Rose Bar). King bar was the Universal Joint in the old days, and Berny must be the longest surviving bar owner. His first bar was where Toto Toro is now. As for the l...

Hua Hin Tuk Tuk minimum prices

Seems like the minimum price for a tuk tuk has gone up from 100 Baht to 150 Baht since the new year. This 50% hike is a bit extortionate especially as fuel prices have fallen!

Water shortage in Hua Hin

We just noticed today that our water tank was almost empty. As I had to pay the water bill anyway, I asked and was told that the Hua Hin water reserve was almost empty, and that the pipeline from Pranburi was under repair. The pipeline should be back in the next 2 days.

Re: Oil Slick puts Hua Hin Beach at it's dirtiest ever ?

For any members in the oil industry, what is that concession shown on this map in the northern gulf marked as MP G1? http://www.dmf.go.th/index.php?act=service&sec=map&ln=en I think that the oil companies have bought the rights to explore this field in the future, and there is no exploratio...

Re: Hua Hin Beach at it's dirtiest ever ?

There was a ship that went down further up towards Bangkok about 2 weeks ago. Crewmen missing and they found their bodies inside when they righted the vessel. I don't know what kind of ship it was but a possible suspect in all this given the sea current flow south from Bangkok. Pete EDIT: Here's th...

Thing that gets me is that why do Immigration take your photo and store it every time you pass through Suvarnabhumi airport if they do not have facial recogniton technology.

Re: Huge explosion rocks central Bangkok

And it gets more embarrassing for Thailand: Thai police say a lack of modern equipment is hampering investigations into last week's deadly blast at the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok. Progress appears to be slow in identifying and tracking down the sole suspect, a man in a yellow t-shirt captured on CCTV....

Re: Pedestrian traffic lights at Bangkok Hospital

See they were turned on again this afternoon. Quite a few people use this crossing. Also, I do not think that this contributes to the usual weekend gridlock, even after stopping 30 seconds for a red light, you are still going to be held up at Market Village. There is more potential for accidents for...

Pedestrian traffic lights at Bangkok Hospital

I have noticed in the past few weeks that these lights are switched off at weekends - just when the road is at its busiest and it is almost impossible to cross the road.
Could it be that the police are trying to get traffic moving, or is the Bangkok Hospital getting desperate for buisness?
