Re: Another alcohol clampdown

Actually that's not true. The restriction does include bars and restaurants. There are exceptions in 'tourist areas' which of course includes Hua Hin. Timing: The ban is in effect from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, every day. Locations Affected: This ban applies to various types of establishments, including c...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

The signs are that hydrogen will replace EV's for long journeys leaving EV's as urban vehicles.
Of course that may never happen but we'll see.

Re: Another alcohol clampdown

Licencing hours were relaxed in the UK years ago and didn't lead to an increase in consumption. In fact consumption has been steadily decreasing since 2009. Therefore the argument that removing the restrictions in the afternoon will lead to increased drinking is nonsense.

Re: Poor exam results put Thai schools on the spot

I taught at university here for 3 years. The problem is the skills and attitudes of the teachers. Rote teaching is the norm where the teacher does the talking and students listen silently. Asking questions is not encouraged at all. Once my students got to know me, their chairs were arranged in a sem...

Re: Different Fuel Grades - How to Choose

It seems everyone knew but me. I don't travel to BKK very often but the trip there and back yesterday was the first time I'd noticed Bangchak. As you say, they appear to be taking over the world. It seemed like every other station was Bangchak!

Different Fuel Grades - How to Choose

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the sudden appearance of many Bangchak Petrol Stations. On a trip through Bangkok yesterday they were very obvious. I'd never heard of them but Google being my friend had the answer. They've recently completed the acquisition of Esso Thailand who have now exited th...

Re: Having a sunday roast at Gordon Ramsay in Bangkok.

I agree that it should be English mustard, with a dab of Horseradish.
Maybe the way I was brought up but Sunday Roast (lunch) doesn't seem right at 5pm. Usually around 2 or 3 after a visit to the pub!

I've heard that a police report is required but other than that I have no info.
Just giving this a bump. Has nobody ever lost a licence and applied for a new one?

Re: Things That Wind Me Up Driving In Thailand

Many of the tourists on bikes have never ridden one before coming here! Speeding for short journeys is very common. You see cars doing 70+ on the outside lane then cutting in at the last minute to enter Market Village. Once inside the supermarket, they will switch to very slow and block aisles with ...

This afternoon ban is respected by 7/11, Makro, Lotus and other supermarkets EXCEPT Villa Market. I've never understood why Villa get away with it when the rest don't.
