Re: Wanted: Thai for work in a shop

Go to the grohm leng ngaan (employment office). Would be good to take a Thai person with you. They have a database of people looking for and offering jobs. This is where the Thais go who are seriously looking for career opportunities. The ones who have a proper education and/or a decent CV. If you p...

Re: Culture and Morals - Thailand vs Japan

Well with regard to the matter of having babies. Thais do not have them despite being poor, they have them because they are poor. Children are their social security. Giving birth at the age of 17 (certainly not an exception) means that the mother will only be in her 30's by the time the child has gr...

Re: What visa to manage a beach wear shop in Hua Hin?

I personally experienced in the past that Labour Department did not accept title and job description in my WP application but they advised my employer in detail how it should be worded.

Re: Not 1 student wore a helmet.

Wearing a helmet is not cool. It is something that old people do. Wear one and you will be ridiculed and find yourself at the very bottom of the student pecking order. Nightly street races on modified bikes will be next.

Re: Koi pond

There is a Dutch guy who deals with koi ponds. His wife runs the Buchabun Thai Cooking Course. His name is Willem. Have two numbers here. Could be hers, but she speaks perfect English. Worth trying: 081 572 3805 or 083 348 8600.

Re: A Little Case of Theft - Can the Police Deal With It?

Yeah, the plot thickens. I must admit that so far the OP made more progress than I expected. The bank smoothly co-operating, the CCTV of good quality and even the police apparently willing to contact the motorbike taxi driver........ BUT he does not have his iPad back (yet?). To be continued.

Re: A Little Case of Theft - Can the Police Deal With It?

As you already said it confused the police and it will also confuse the bank and everybody else if you keep calling the finder a thief. Good luck on your quest.

Re: A Little Case of Theft - Can the Police Deal With It?

It is definitely not 'a case of theft'. The title should read: A little case of me forgetting my iPhone on top of an ATM. It is not the task of the police to help you find lost property that has NOT been stolen. Maybe time for a new dictionary Roel. Try the Oxford one. steal Definition of steal in ...

It is definitely not 'a case of theft'. The title should read: A little case of me forgetting my iPhone on top of an ATM. It is not the task of the police to help you find lost property that has NOT been stolen but merely left unattended. The only thing they can do is file a report for insurance cla...

Re: Photo trip report: A glimpse into Cambodia

Kep. Sounds like Hua Hin 25 years ago. A beach resort mainly visited by locals. But now a farang retirement haven. Time to invest in Kep now buksida and harvest in 20 years when the farangs will be there in great numbers. You will be in business long before the crooks smell it and come to %$##$ thin...

Re: Money Changers

I think the OP means one of these Chinese money changers. Like you find in Pattaya sitting at a desk in the back of a shop selling for instance antiques or whatever. There are no signs. You have to know where to go. One would expect this service to be available in Hua Hin as well. Best way to find o...

Re: International mail opened by post office

I had packages checked in the past but it was not done by the post office but officially re-sealed with customs tape from the distribution centre in Bangkok. I would think it is the task of customs to randomly check packages whether the actual content matches with what the documentation says. What h...

Re: correct pronounciation of hua hin

To my knowledge there is no official transliteration of Thai into English which explains the numerous translations. Surely it is sufficient if you can get a Thai to understand what you are trying to say. For the purists sticking with the Thai language is the only way and I have found that reading T...
