Re: Thailand tumbles in International Student Assessments

The company I work for has 30 Thai service engineers based in BKK. All are qualified to degree level. It is very apparent that the electrical/electronics engineers are trained very well but when it comes to the mechanical guys most can not even read an engineering drawing. This is probably why there...

Re: Dual-pricing in Thailand: Is it time to do away with the 'farang tax'?

If I'm planning ahead I take my work permit with me and usually there is no issue. Of course there are also unplanned occasions, spur of the moment decisions and if it's a national park or similar I will often pay the Farang price providing it's not stupidly outragious (10x). I somehow get the point...

Re: BBC journalist faces five years in jail for reporting Thai fraud

In one of the newspaper reports it said that JH could continue to travel but would need to fly to Phuket and apply in person to the court explaining the details and purpose of his travel. On hos return he would again need to appear at the court to resubmit his passport. I’m sure that this process wo...

27,000 prostitutes and 1 Million male visitors annually to Pattaya.

Is it coincidence that Durex built their factory in Rayong or was it supply and demand?

Phuket Courts are in a class of their own. Defamation is a civil court matter in Europe but here its criminal and is designed to protect those who can afford justice.

Tourist SIM-tracking plan axed http://www.bangkokpost.com/print/1202657/ Plans for special SIM cards for tourists have finally been scrapped by the national telecom regulator after facing strong opposition from the government, which says the idea would do more harm than good. The plan also drew hea...

Re: Thailand wins for worst traffic in world

I actually have to visit customers during the day.l and therefor need the car available. On days when I don't have customer visits I will take a taxi but the time to and from the office doesn't change. Walking is not an option, heat is one thing but blocked walkways, broken pavements and potholes ar...

Re: TrueVisions to stop showing HBO, Cinemax

In the real world True should now be forced to reduce the cost of both Gold and Platunum packages to current worth and cost -50% st least. Of course I'm dreaming, but True inadvertently have created a demand for better priced competition and given time it will happen. I'm pleased that the virtual mo...

^^ you are correct but forget to also mention removal of U-Turns and dangerous junctions from high speed highways.

Removal of dangerous, old and unfit vehicles from the roads

Re: Thailand wins for worst traffic in world

:? 64 Hours stuck in Traffic congestion is a huge underestimate for anyone who lives in Bangkok. My home to office is 3.5km, a daily journey that takes me 35 - 45 minutes twice each day so if you only consider 20 minutes as stuck in gridlock per journey it's 200 minutes per working week so let's say...

Re: Any tip for good painters

I think that it's all been said:- 1) get a painter that others recommend 2) agree a price for the job of the basis of a) you buy the quality paint yourself. b) paint is not watered down c) primers, base coats are used where you deem necessary d) all prep is inspected before painting commences e) you...
