I prefer 'cockwomble' which describes the person rather than the whole government:

Re: My owner wants me out! Security of tenure
The business mentality in Thailand does not follow logic. That's evidenced by the general decision to raise prices if sales drop. Most other places would reduce prices to promote sales.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Like much of wildlife, bats are host to a number of coronaviruses. They live and reproduce in the host while not necessarily making them ill. Wildlife has for decades been host to a variety of diseases. Some of these can affect humans but in the main, they do not affect the host. It's nature. Malari...

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
The research to date shows that recovering from Covid only gives immunity for a while. The antibodies deteriorate after a few weeks. It's also been noted that people recovering from the severest infections produce a stronger immune capability. The milder the symptoms, the weaker the antibody respons...

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread
(has he ever played a baddy?) Has he ever played a villain? The 2002 drama "Road to Perdition" is the closest Tom Hanks has come to playing a villain, but even that's a bit of a gray area. Yes, his character, Michael Sullivan, is a hitman with the Irish mob, and sure, he is known as the A...

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread
Not really a recommendation just an observation. My family (Thai) are really into zombie movies. They've watched the full series so far of 'The Walking Dead' followed by 'Fear the Walking Dead'. Now the zombies in those series and many films are what we expect. Slow staggering undead that eat flesh ...

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues
That article is now out of date. The latest is: BANGKOK — An order mandated by the central government this week bans local authorities and private hospitals from procuring their own coronavirus vaccine supplies, even as the fate of the national vaccination drive remains uncertain. The decision by th...

Re: Retirement Visa Extension and Transferwise
Initially when Monday was a public holiday, I received double the previous Monday. If Christmas day was a Monday then I got triple on the 18th as New Years day was also a Monday. Happy days! Now, though it's usually paid on the previous Thursday but the rules say it could be paid on the previous Fri...

Re: Retirement Visa Extension and Transferwise
My UK state pension is paid every Monday with the only exception it being a public holiday and then it's paid early as I've said.
That's weekly but I'm sure the logistics are different for monthly which I believe is every 28 days.

Re: Retirement Visa Extension and Transferwise
The UK state pension is paid early if the due date is a holiday. Usually the working day before the due date. For example, my state pension is always paid on Monday but if that's a holiday, then it's paid on the previous Friday or before.

Thanks, BB. Didn't realise it was an extra bank holiday. I wondered why the kids weren't at school.

Re: Retirement Visa Extension and Transferwise
Just did a transfer from TW (same every month) and it's way off the norm. Firstly I had to use a security code sent as an SMS to my phone before allowing to sign on. I'm okay with that as it shows security. Did the transfer as normal and the message I got back was that they've received my money and ...

Re: Hua Hin airport due for upgrade
About 20 years back the wife purchased 2 rai out where the 4 by pass is. she and her friends were excited because a giant airport was going to be built in that area. it was never built. my wife and her Thai friends were bitterly disappointed. bad info. she finally sold the 2 rai for a small profit ...
