The reason it is a lot more toned down here is that its a Royal city. The King is in residence most of the time so it has to be 'kept clean'.

Besides for those of us that like the occasional game of pingpong or darts Bangkok is only 2 hours away :twisted:

plenty, try Mai Tai cocktail bar next to the Hilton (theres another bar next to that also with no girls). All Nations guesthouse has a bar where backpackers hang out. Rockestra II is a late night live music venue that attracts local thais and farang rock fans. Most of the 'girlie' bars in Hua Hin ar...

no problem to eat at any of those restaurants, ones nearer the hilton may be a little more expensive but still cheaper than the hotel!

The Sofitel is about the best place in town, you may get a good deal if you book early over the internet. Most hotels give better rates for internet bookings than regular walk ins.

The government are always changing the rules, it looks like they're constantly striving to make it harder for us to stay here so in 6 months it could be different again.

Not sure about retirement visas but look at the website mentioned above, they seem to be upto date with their information.
