Re: Belgian beers

SF was a long time ago HF. There are some ailments as we age that make things taste sweet now, but not so when we were younger. It may be the opposite of diabetes, I'm not sure.....only going on comments from other elders about change in taste of food and drink as time unfortunately marches on. Pete...

Re: Your solutions on 3 million baht to find longevity here

I would take a year and study Forex and on-line stock trading to get as good at it as one possibly can in that time frame. I'd then take 25K of my saved 100 and put things into practice. If the result was favourable, you have your answer. If not, time for plan B or another year of study and practice...

Re: Mozzies under the bedroom door?

Snakes & mice Pete..!! Kinda makes my few hungry mozzies hardly worth worrying about compared to wot comes in thru' your door..5-5! Yeah, unfortunately once in awhile. When we first moved in there were field mice galore all around the house as we're right next to acres of jungle. One g...

Re: Termites- eating wood

Termites are everywhere, except perhaps the Arctic circle and Antarctica. :D A pest control company is the best to come out and assess if you have any, and if not, look for danger signs that would attract them, such as wood exposed to soil contact etc. Be sure though you use a trustworthy company as...

Re: Sondhi sentenced to 20 years for fraud

Again: The man has posted a 10 million baht bail to stay out of jail. I repeat my question: Will he ever serve his jail sentence? :tsk: He'll have two appeal processes, the second up to the Supreme Court if it goes that far. He's 64 now so if there are two appeals, he'll probably be 67 or 68 by the...

Re: Mozzies under the bedroom door?

You can find similar here in the larger hardware outlets. They come in lengths a bit wider than a door and you trim them to size. Base is a tough plastic with a flexible rubber blade beneath. The base has self affixing adhesive. We've used them on steel/screened security doors coming into the kitchen...

Re: Cravings

Oh yes. Mrs. Pete and her group of Thai friends are really into learning how to cook western meals. Lasagna, a delicious beef stew, meat loaf, exotic salads galore with meats, fruits, nuts etc. They even have a weekly 4 hour baking class they go to and come home with some delicious goodies. It is at...

Re: Thai Microwave(Big paperweight/Clock)

I thought they had solved that problem of metal containers, utensils etc.? I've seen units with brushed stainless interiors. Mine here has a metal interior lining, but enamel coated. Do the instruction books still say "no metal"? Pete

Re: Malaria Repellent Cream

.......advice from the uk is that we should be ok as long as were not near the border or prolonged jungle exposure. That's good advice. You all will be OK if you use a cream like OFF or other Deet product while outdoors, especially in the evening. Don't worry about malaria tablets or the like. Pete...

Re: Malaria Repellent Cream

1) Don't forget the MATS wafers and little red colored electric machine we talked about on a different thread. You can find in Lotus. Put it in her sleeping room but in a corner somewhere, not under her crib. They say the wafers last 12 hours but it's really more like 8-10. 2) OFF cream for Kids als...

Re: Modern House Design

i think Thais tend to design from the outside in. rather than inside out. so they will have a house shape and size they like and then fit the rooms inside the house.which often leads to fail. :D Yes, that goes along with our saving face and status themes. Most people see the house from the outside ...

Re: Cravings

Eat what you like TTJ. There's no special initiation to the "Asian Club" that says you have to eat, or even like rice at all. I think some folks may think that if they don't do this, or do that here, they won't fit in. Nonsense, just be yourself and pick and choose the parts of the culture...
