Re: Opinion: Why Do Some Thais Support China Over Hong Kong Protests?

The Taiwanese will be getting nervous if the PLA roll into Hong a la the Tienamin Square method . As for taking over the Asean region it would be interesting to see how things pan out with the Muslim nations even with their local Chinese controlling these economies seeing how Beijing is "re-edu...

Couple years back the local garden center told me that river stone mining was now banned on environmental grounds.

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand

Woken during the night to a strange grinding noise.
Bit of investigation and found balcony furniture being blown about and rain was coming in nearly horizontally. Never had seen it like that before. Great bit of rain tho.

Re: Proposal to make health insurance mandatory for long-stay visas

The fact that the UK, Australia, NZ and the like are so supportive of foreigners residing there within their systems is a credit to them. I know of a Thai woman, a mates mum , who takes very much advantage of these gracious offerings while really spending her life mostly here and only popping over t...

Re: Proposal to make health insurance mandatory for long-stay visas

Gotta face facts here folks, If you fell into the uninsurable category back home would you then expect the Thai health system to carry you ? Could you then imagine if the Thais did they would be swamped with "visitors" seeking medical holidays. Probably just have to accept life's deal of c...

Re: Proposal to make health insurance mandatory for long-stay visas

I can see some good in this proposal Pete . We have all heard the horrendous stories of people being landed with some scary medical bills here and being unable to pay them out. Then having even bigger bills to be repatriated home. This insurance scheme could avoid these problems. But will it be simp...

Re: Buying a Car

When you consider the mayhem on Thai roads and the chances of being in a serious accident why is the safety aspect of a car purchase rarely discussed ? Sadly the majority of cars made and sold into the local market are not a patch on the export models when safety is taken into account lacking many o...

Maybe also check that no peanut oil used in cooking the food you order. It's not in common use as it's a bit more expensive
than the good old cheap and nasty palm oil . I do recall seeing some of those big square 20 litre cans of peanut oil next to a favourite fried banana stall.

Re: Very boring car designs!

Don't totally agree with you on that one Pete. Just for starters Mazda have the new CX3/ CX5 .Selling like hot cakes around the world too. Subaru have the BRZ ,WRX and the XV models, if you like a bit "off the wall" in styling. But do admit that Toyota put out some very bland looking cars....

Fandango, take it that's the Longines Le Grande model ? suggest your lady not wear it with that many screws damaged. Very likely that it will leak moisture into it in the tropical heat and humidity resulting in it being totally wrecked. As it is, you will need a whole new casing head , sorry very co...

Re: Dengue fever spreading in Bangkok

I cannot help but have a bit of a laugh at the authorities tokenistic fumigation practices. What is the point of whizzing around the streets in the wee hours of the night spraying only the frontages of properties? What's more laughable is a pickup with a very noisy fogger comes in only 50 metres in ...

Re: Australian visa denied to Thai national

MrTea, Australia has some of the toughest immigration laws about. Visitors from Thailand will need to show substantial finances , assets in Thailand and proof of an ongoing permanent job back in Thailand. You will need to provide work payment receipts going back a couple of years at least. Why?? Thi...
