Re: Hi, some newbie advice needed

Well I'm all set at Heathrow and it's wheels up on my new life in 3 hours! Going through pretty much every emotion under the sun at the moment, excited, nervous, happy, sad but can't wait to start my new adventure. Many thanks to all that have offered me wise words on this forum and if you see an id...

Re: Hi, some newbie advice needed

read all the thread with interest, then hit the bit where you are taking a girlfriend here. good luck with that as it has been the downfall of many a man who came to Thailand with a partner. Avenue 88 is fine to get your barings and only really 5 minutes from town She's Thai, however lived in the U...

Re: Hi, some newbie advice needed

I am 48 so retiring pretty early worked hard all my life so it's a bit of a journey into the unknown hence the need to find a running club, gym, bar to watch the footy, golf club etc. Don't want to be too far out of town but want to find a pretty nice house once we have spent enough time to be sure ...

Re: Hi, some newbie advice needed

Well finally I have managed to sort everything, I've handed my notice in and I'm all set to touchdown on my new life on April1st. I have rented a pool house at avenue 88 for 3 months while I look about to find my ideal house and location. Have found this site very helpful in making my decisions so f...

Re: Hi, some newbie advice needed

Well looks like I'm all set and will be heading to Hua Hin on the 18th of March. Looking at staying at Baan San Dao condo to start with while I look around for a permanent residence. Does anybody know anything about this place? Would be interested in any views good or bad. I remember walking past it...

Re: How long have you been a supporter of your club

Been going since 1970 when I was 5. Seen Norwich at Wembley twice and also at Milan, Munich and Arnem. Have had a season ticket every tear since 1988 and go to every away game. Will keep my home season ticket when I move to LOS next year and get back to games whenever I can

Re: Hi, some newbie advice needed

Loads of clever Forest fans here if your from Notts. Norwich well that's another story :D Wow that's 4 words you never normally see in the same sentence, loads, clever, fans and Forest but unfortunately I'm a Norwich fan hoping there may be 1 or 2 others about in Hua Hin but won't be holding out mu...

Re: Hi, some newbie advice needed

As you have already intimated, rent first so you can give both areas (CA and HH) a good look to see if they offer what you want. You said about being near to some bars and restaurants - is that walking distance or by motorbike/car/taxi? Obviously the north side of HH or Cha Am will be a bit quicker...

Re: Hi, some newbie advice needed

None of those places appeal to me. Hua Hin/ChaAm is building up too rapidly now and getting congestested especially on weekends. If you like Chang Mai, better be prepared for traffic and more traffic like BKK. Pranburi is a more laid back option and still close to Hua Hin for shops and services. We...

Re: Hi, some newbie advice needed

Thanks, interesting food for thought appreciate the feedback on Cha Am not been before but heard some good things will try to spend some time there in June.

Not sure about Chiang Mai beautiful as it is it's a little too far from the beach and a little too close to the in-laws :D

Re: Hi, some newbie advice needed

Thanks for the advice Big Boy and Bonnie Lass, Definitely going to rent to start with and will probably do so for the first 12 -18 months. A bit torn between Cha Am and Hua Hin at the moment so hopefully renting will help me decide. Will also try and make the quiz in June if there is one so I can me...
