Re: Place for a really good burger

I have little time for these ridiculous, towering piles of nonsense that are so ostentatious they can’t be eaten without a knife and fork. A burger is a quick bite, not some gourmet contraption designed to do nothing more than empty your wallet. Take the Cornish pasty, the sandwich, the pizza, samos...

Re: Buying glasses in Hua Hin

Yeah, OK. I'd be cautious about any practitioner who undertakes everything from initial diagnosis to final treatment. There are good reasons why physicians diagnose and surgeons operate, or physicians prescribe and pharmacists dispense. There's a lot of discussion here about the 'equipment' that is ...

Re: Buying glasses in Hua Hin

^ Those are reading glasses only... No they are for long sight as well, i bought 2 pairs, they have magnification stickers on them, the ones i bought were -100, just sort through them, there are a few store/huts selling them in the market village centre. Being long-sighted (or ‘far-sighted’) means you...

Re: Automatic gate

Our automatic gate motor was destroyed by flooding this time last year and almost everywhere we looked we were told 25k baht for the motor. I managed to find one on Lazada for around 12k but it requires magnets to operate the home and end points instead of being programmable. It works though and eve...

Re: Pre paid SIM cards in the UK?

I read that there are only 4 companies. GiffGaff piggybacks into the O2 network that provides the technical service--I dont know whether this makes any difference. I tend to judge companies by the quality of Customer service if you have a problem. There are possibly fewer than four physical network...

Re: Getting into Central Bangkok from Swampy

Quite a few years ago, I used a high speed train service to and from Phaya Thai to Swampy (no stops) but a friend told me recently that this service doesn't run any more. However, there is a slower train that does the route and I can pick up the BTS from Phaya Thai as before. Does anyone know if th...

No, you have to register online and they post it to you.

Re: How not to get sick on holiday in Thailand

The gastrointestinal tract is effectively an external-facing tube running down our body from our mouth to our anus. Anything that wants to get from this outside tube to inside our bodies needs to be digested, with strong stomach acids and enzymes, broken down into small molecules and then transporte...

Re: How not to get sick on holiday in Thailand

Caller said: I have never had an issue with a burger here - whether from a western chain, a Thai chain, local chains, ordered in local restaurants or bought frozen. You say you don't trust them, but have you experienced problems? I certainly have had problems with burgers in the past and many other...

Re: Hua Hin airport due for upgrade

There’s no reason why aircraft would need to fly over the Palace. Noise abatement procedures could include circuits (patterns) that put all arriving and holding traffic to the north of the runway, which is a decent distance from the Palace.

I switched to Microsoft Exchange through Office 365 with my own domain after a few bad experiences with other webmail/IMAP suppliers. It’s around $3 per month and is worth every cent for stability, security, spam protection and uptime.

Re: Electric Cars

The current of a UK supply us determined by the rating of your distribution board, the device that takes the mains supply and distributes it around the house. Ours is rated at 120 Amps. So 120x240 = 28.8 kW. If I were charging a 90kWh Tesla, for example, theoretically I could do that in just over 3 ...

It’s worth looking at the cost breakdown for Chavalit as they may have included any number of the one-off payments to the Land Office and others that are required when buying a house.
