Re: Understanding Thai females
I think it's very simple - Thai women are volatile by nature. But in addition to that they don't cope with PMT very well. In fact not at all. I don't know any Thai woman who has sought help with PMT or the menopause - and don't even know if such help would be available to them. They can be very sca...

Re: Shop assistants......man!
Just to let you know Barry, the March is quite a nice little run around car, especially considering the cost of a new one. We bought one a while back, and have been very happy with it. Done about 60,000 km's already. Thanks for that Takiap - good to hear. Do you know anything about the Niss...

Re: What are your views on the 2nd hand car market?
I think it's fair, but with some considerations. I've bought two cars new, and two cars off the secondhand market. Here's my take on the local market. Most people buying their first new car in Thailand will go for a popular Japanese make that is the market standard. Topping this list (by brand desir...

Re: Is there a way of telling a Thai they are a liar?
Takiap, I'll add some inverted commas to clarify my reply; I'm assuming you're saying 'Thai speaking' farang, as in a farang who is able to speak Thai? (As opposed to a 'Thai' speaking a 'farang' language). Yes, some borders can be crossed depending on the level and fluency of Thai that can lead to ...

Re: Is there a way of telling a Thai they are a liar?
Is there a way of telling a * Thai they are a liar that they will take seriously? * Insert country Easyas, you don't. A loss of 'face' is seen as a very big slight; saying something like that direct to the person's face even in jest, is asking for trouble. Read the Paul Ayling thread again. Note th...

Re: Windscreen replacement
Suggest you contact your insurance company, they will have a list of places to go to. I've never had any problems with claims. (Replaced 7 windscreens over three cars/ 18 years)

Re: Pork Fat (Lard)
Why don't you make your own? I usually buy pork fat from the fresh market, cut it into thin strips, put in in a wok on a low flame and wait for the fat to ooze out. Collect in a seperate porcelain bowl. Only buy as much as you want to use as the smell and flavour tend to deteriorate after a day. Por...

Re: Small Slice of Life (again)
Pete, it's not like the old days where you had to fend for yourself and were basically taught to. We all had our bit to do (chores to you Americans) - wash the dishes, sweep the house, feed the dog - the list goes on. That is what made us what we are today; independent and self-sufficient within rea...

Re: Car Accessories Shop
JF1 glad you found what you were looking for. It is on my consideration list now as I have just bought a car with automatic transmission so won't be able to push-start the car as I could with the manual. I love to roam around the Klong Thom/ Ban Mor area when I have a free weekend or two. And I alwa...

Re: Car Accessories Shop
I have called out Honda 3 times in 16 months, changed battery twice and the thing still goes flat. You may want to consider a membership with Car World Club (CWC). They provide emergency breakdown services anywhere in Thailand 24 hours a day. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg and has saved me a lot ...

Re: Plastic pellet guns
JW those things are good for a laugh. Someone brought one in to work and he couldn't shoot a door from ten meters. The pellets were everywhere and the cleaner was not amused. For what it's worth get a sniper style one and use ceramic pellets. Those plastic pellets don't do anything. Single shot, tho...

Re: 1 air con unit with outlets to 3 rooms
Bapak those airconditioners are known as a multi-split system. Carrier started it years ago, but now a google search shows that other manufacturers have followed suit. They are sold as a system, so you may have to do a bit of research and download the model specifications that best suit your applica...

If you bought the oven locally, get the local agent to get it done. You certainly won't get an off-the-shelf item like that. Otherwise, get a refillable long-nosed gas lighter, about twenty baht or so, and use that instead. They do sell the long nosed piezo igniters as I've seen them somewhere, but ...

Re: Coping with flood refugees
We, luckily, have managed to escape the floods here in Nakhon Pathom City, and our university (now closed until the 28th) Lucky you. I'm in Laksi and have been flooded out since 28/10. Moved some family out to Chachengsao but have to come back to work in Bangers as company is not flooded and theref...
