Jaime, I don't make it down to HH more than twice to three times a year, so I am not familiar with the level of development going on. And it's normally with the wife and kids so we'll find someplace near the beach to spend the weekend. In fact, I may just be in Cha-am this weekend. You're right abou...

It's a nice weekend retreat from Bangkok with the wife and the kids, and maybe a few friends to boot. The hotels on the beach are reasonable, it's one of the few places left where the beach is still the beach (meaning no buildings, shops etc between the beach and the road - I remember Patong beach l...

The level crossings at HH are 'protected', meaning there is an actual barrier that comes down to prevent traffic from passing when the train goes through. (Nothing to do with ghosts) It is the ignorant attitude of people that get them killed. Even in broad daylight. What the station master has said ...

My brother told me about this website, he was searching for hotels in HH. It's funny, though. I've been in the kingdom 16 years, based in Bangkok, and I had absolutely no idea there were so many watering holes around HH. Absolutely loved the Jazz festival :D , and will make sure to catch the complet...

This thread has touched a raw nerve somewhere, here are my two pennies worth... The girls working in the bars are people, with feelings and a life. Many turn to this kind of life out of necessity. Many do not 'go with customers' but are quite content with the basic wage and scrounged drinks. I go to...

Not everyone can purchase those military maps, also many are restricted from public use. Depending on the amount of detail, you may be interested in a hard copy map 1:350,000 scale with 1:20,000 scale for Bangkok and major cities. This is advertised as 'GPS compatible' and at 950 baht (I actually pa...

Would advise that you get the International Driving licence, as only that and the local licences are considered here. Do understand that the local constabulary are not fluent in English and it's not worth the hassle to get into prolonged differences of opinion. Try not to drive over the speed limit,...
