Re: Cruise control hazard
Gee Whiz. Such a revelation! Now must the programmers put into Cruise Control an over ride for the idiot driver who is exceeding safe speeds for the conditions? Oh my, does the driver have any responsibility to drive safely any more. Blame it on the car now? Consider this, several years ago someone...

I totally agree with these. Mandatory training by a certified instructor would do wonders.Big Boy wrote:What about:

Re: Written English?
Thank you for the responses, very informative. I do however feel this is another case of changing the level of the article to meet the lowest common denominator. I used to write briefings and letters to generals and CEOs. The rule was the higher the individual was in the food chain and the more edu...

Re: Written English?
As it was taken from a verbal quote, I assume that the words in brackets were inserted to make the meaning clear to readers and were not what was actually said in the interview, i.e.: (The information in the film) = "it" or similar was most likely actually said. (National Security Agency)...

Re: Fruit and veggies 'still contaminated'
The word "residue" to me means, you need to wash your fruits and veggies, something I've been doing all my life. Then they use the word "in", which to me means washing won't do any good. Anyone have more than what the article says? Is the contamination on the surface or internal ...

Great idea, maybe put in a new section called the No Whine Zone.kendo wrote:To balance this why don't we have a Still Great Value In Hua Hin thread. For expats that really want to praise products, services, lifestyle and activities.

Just an additional thought:
This is the gulf. The water is not going to be as nice as the open ocean. There is land on 3 sides.

Re: Problems with Thai girlfriends
Its interesting to see the word guest used.
In my home any guest that gets drunk and acts the fool, demands anything, talks down to anyone, treats anyone like a servant, etc, will quickly be shown the door.
Why should things be any different elsewhere?

Re: Pavement repairs for Petchakasem Road
One important hazard they haven't mentioned is low flying road signs. Thais can walk under them without hindrance, but when you're 6' 5" tall, they are a real hazard. Basically where do you look? Do you watch the pavement for pot holes. or do you look high for low flying road signs? I'm a mart...

Best swimming I've seen is Cha-am or Khao Tao. I live 50m from the beach in Khao Tao. Its not as nice as Phuket, but few people too, even on the weekend. However, there are no amenities on the beach either. They just finished a very nice bike riding path here. There is also little traffic. A few con...

I don't look at the fees for places or pricing as a 2 tiered system designed to fleece farangs.
To me its a matter of earned benefits that the Thai peeople have sacrificed for, whereas we bought our way in.

Re: TRICARE acceptance at Bangkok Hospital HH?
This topic is old so I thought I'd update it. Basically nothing new. BKK hospital does not bill Tricare for in-patient or out-patient, per the head cashier. Translation, have other insurance that they do accept or enough cash to pay your bill and wait for reimbursement. If you're like me and have pr...
