Re: Birds of Thailand

I was thinking the same the other day Pete. I've seen the odd one but never flocks of them and I've traveled a bit as well

Perhaps the Thais have a taste for them

Re: Unlocking region on Nintendo wii

I stuck a Wasabi DX Modchip in my kids Wii - pretty cheap and very straightforward to fit if you're handy with a screwdriver and not scared of a circuit board or two. There are lots of guides out there to help you. e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aiblZBzgc8 You can also do it using software - b...

Re: Advancing With Business Plan

You might want to try Bangkok, Uktom, especially with graphic designer skills and a degree. A few years back a friend of mine who started out here at a similar age to you took the plunge. Started out quite low waged but ended up running his own company. I think opportunities in HH are few and far be...

Re: Moving to Thailand

BB. We moved from the UK to Thailand last August - similar situation to yourself and everything in the missus' name. My wife was on the Tabien Baan papers for her parent's house in Bueng Karn but our shipping address was to a friend in HH. We changed it en route to come to our rented house once we w...

Re: Disneyland Thailand in Hua Hin?

..............................................or why not just north of Cha-Am, where there is a large concentration of Thai families on holidays. Speaking of which: anybody know about the big Ferris Wheel and associated develpoment just North of Cha Am? Drove past it the other day and looks like it...

Re: Bank Accounts

A little off topic.

Mrs JM did a quick visit to all the banks in HH.

Kasikorn appear to be the only ones who don't charge for a SWIFT inbound payment.

Not sure how long it'll last but we'll be opening an account there tomorrow :D

Re: Farang murder a few days ago

I was playing darts at the Cat Karaoke (next to Bernies) early evening a couple of weeks ago when the police turned up with a grainy picture from a security camera with, you've guessed it, a girl with long, straight, black hair and the victim. Couldn't really make out her face. The picture was from ...

Re: Cholesterol

Also a little off topic Ric - plant stanol esters - i.e. Benecol or the like and also in lots of foodstuffs.

My cholesterol went marginally above 5 and tried them. A couple of months later I was retested and it had lowered to 4.2.

You can get them in Tescos in Market Village.

I usually play there twice a week.

Greens are ok but the fairways are in pretty poor nick - course D is particularly bad!

Re: Burglaries behind Soi 80.

According to my in-laws it's the favourite modus operandi of burglars in Pattaya.

Unfortunately it looks like they've started here in HH :(

Re: Best Broadband provider in HH

Thought I'd give a quick update. Now I'm here I went with True who connected me up via cable rather than a landline. I went for a 9MB down/ 1MB up for around 900 baht per month and actually got those speeds when I did a check when the installer was here. Seems good so far - 2 weeks - with no downtim...

Yam Sa-ard. Looked at Somtawin but didn't want to commit them to a purely English education.

Seems quite a good mix so far.

Re: "saying No" !! to Thais.....

Know what you mean about trying to write down Thai phonetically GLC - not easy.

My kids have just come over from the uk - 10 and 5 - and are learning Thai now so I'm trying to join in with reading and writing - they're already showing up their old dad!

Gonna be a long haul :?

Re: "saying No" !! to Thais.....

I've been struggling with Thai for years but am no expert KateB but here's goes:

Mai Aow (Kha/Khrap) - I don't want it (thank you)
Mai Aow Jing Jing - I really don't want it
Miow (sounds like a cat) - local dialect means same as Mai Aow

Good luck!

Re: 3G connectivity and Thailand

Thanks for the info SJ - and on my other post about the broadband connections. I think I'll probably swap to a landline broadband and just keep the DTAC dongle as a backup when I get to HH. I'm sure you guys have seen it all before but I'm currently working in a half built mansion belonging to a cou...
