Re: Demolition of restaurants + shops in Poon Suk road

So going back to what it was 16 years ago. Hopefully! Putting up small retail units and pulling them down again seems to be a hobby in HH. One time around 2000 or so a similar row of single storey units was erected opposite Euro Bakery and soon demolished to make way for a hotel. BTW the name 'Bam ...

Re: Subhamitra Hotel HH

Thanks all for that. I do know that they upgraded around 6/7 years ago and I found the rooms and refurbed en suites were fine for the price. And yes location is great - but thanks for the alternative tip Nereus and for the website BB.

Subhamitra Hotel HH

Is this hotel still in business, or has it changed name? Maybe it's me but I can't seem to be able to trace it anywhere!

How do you lose a flippin' hotel for gawds sake? Thanks guys.

Just found this which implies a nation wide rule: Community checkpoints manned by volunteers will also be set up in villages in provinces to encourage motorists not to drink and drive to promote safe driving, according to the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth). And still - despite so cal...

Re: New labels and tax to tackle Thailand's junk food problem

Governments could ban the use of salt and sugar, and you would still have just as many obese people going about. Som people can eat as much as they want and they don't put on weight, while others can't. It's up to those people to recognize their problem and then deal with it accordingly, or just be ...

Re: Online Ordering - a sign of the times?

The major players like Lazada and Amazon have deals with the manufactures that in order to be represented by them they must take returns back for repacking. For a manufacturer it's a small price to pay for global exposure! And it can work well. Last year I found a bargain laptop on Amazon which had...

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?

And now the PM has allegedly said that if drivers want to kill themselves go ahead. With such irresponsible comments from government how can things ever improve? Don't the powers that be realise that innocent lives can so easily be lost as well? Sorry I forget - no one really cares and at the end of...

Re: New labels and tax to tackle Thailand's junk food problem

The 'traffic light' system has been in use in the UK for some time now, and seemed to come into common use quite quickly. Where Thailand has the leaf person, (which is a good start) we have a row of boxes on food products, each coloured - red, orange, yellow, green, and a white I think. Each box den...

Family trip to Thailand

I have been asked to give ideas for places to visit for a mixed age UK family, who will be in Thailand this December. No problems with suggestions for Bangkok and the north, Kanchanburi, and of course HuaHin. But there are 5 in the group - a couple in their 40's with a boy of about 10, and a woman i...

Re: Online Ordering - a sign of the times?

I use online shopping quite a lot. It started a few years ago while living in a small town where there was no big supermarket, so online was great for home bulk deliveries - especially frozen food. Then stuff from Amazon which is great for music and books. Overall there is simply much more choice on...

Re: Why did you settle in Hua Hin?

By accident! We had to leave Pattaya - spent a while in Bangkok trying to decide where to go next. Considered Chiang Mai but really wanted a beach place. then an expat friend had a bank holiday off and gave us a lift as far as HH and that was it!

Just a quick off topic but that discussion about the problem read a bit like the opening lines of Airplane

Re: BBC journalist faces five years in jail for reporting Thai fraud

When this matter was first reported on a couple of months or so ago. The beeb issued a statement that they were fully standing by Head. Nothing has changed in that respect. I think there's more at stake here than Head's fate. It's about the future of independent journalism not just in Thailand, but...

Re: Police launch campaign to improve Pattaya's sex-tainted image

That's not true. Me and the kids have been many times over the years. I'll repeat what I've said on other threads. You can spend a couple of weeks there, doing something different every day without setting foot in the 'bar area'. There's a lot about Pattaya that is not reported. Why do you think th...
