Re: First look at Thailand's sleek new express trains

New rolling stock has to be a positive - I don't know how old the old ones were but it was pretty old - despite the usual high quality of maintenance in Thailand they had safety issues. I went Hua Hin - Penang for my visa run in January and it was better than expected - new carriages with hopefully ...

Re: Boxers (shorts)

Hello Eiahh Big Boy's suggestion is good. there is a lady on the ground floor at Hua Hin mall, forgotten her name now but she has a sign stating that she has clothes for Big Boys. she is in the middle section, between the supermarket and the cosmetics, on the right if you heading towards Petchasem R...

Enjoyed the England v Ireland game, wasn't sure if I fancied a lateish night but it was good.

Re: New Post Office in Hua Hin

If anyone has a PO Box at the refurbished Town Post Office (opposite the Police Station) and is not receiving any mail it may be worth a trip to the "Airport" branch. Two friends, both longstanding residents have had this problem and found a whole pile of mail in the box of the same number at the Ai...

Re: Fire Behind Night Market Street

Yes, I was having lunch around there at midday. Agree motorists were very uncooperative, took the police to make them behave a bit better. I counted 5 fire appliances in attendance, the one with the overhead gear turning up quite late on. Leaking hoses, water cascading out underneath one of the fire...

Re: best place to eat in soi 80

Further to my rather cynical contribution about soi 80 not being famous for it's food, Victoria is doing evening meals again after a long break. Excellent quality mainly English classics, Fish and Chips, pies, liver and bacon etc.

Re: Hua Hin Restaurant News

Barry at Victoria (Soi 80) is doing evening meals again after a break of approx 2 years I think. He has just been concentrating on his (excellent) pies but is now doing eat in; liver and bacon, fish and chips, steak and kidney pudding to mention a few. He also has a take away menu. Many people will ...

Re: New Post Office in Hua Hin

You should be able to "transfer" your old PO box that has gone to the Airport to the refurbished town PO - but they may be going fairly quickly, there are more than the new ones outside. A friend who has been here donkeys years just managed to transfer his. Also something to watch out for is the cha...

Re: Water shortage in Hua Hin

I claim no expertise in this field but I understand the majority of Hua Hin's water supply these days comes from the Pranburi dam, which I am told is very low this year. Some parts of town have always been worse than others for supply i.e. Soi 80 / Rainoon area. There is a small reservoir between th...

Re: Private Thai Language Lessons

I have picked up on this old thread rather than starting a new one. Does anyone know or can recommend someone giving Private Thai language lessons in Hua Hin please? What I would really like would be a one to one in spoken Thai. I have a reasonable foundation but would like to progress over the next...

I noticed some of the hermit crabs have oil on their shells - almost certainly going to affect them in the long term

Re: Sand flies in Hua Hin?

I think low light levels other than at dusk leads to more sand fly activity (bit like the midges in Scotland) I have been badly bitten in the past sitting in deep shade reading a book at Suan Son. They are to be avoided, being badly bitten can make you quite ill.

Re: Oil Slick puts Hua Hin Beach at it's dirtiest ever ?

Yes, the rougher sea has obviously stirred it up again. I had oil on my feet again. I don't think we will see any daytime low tides until after the dark moon on 11 Dec. perhaps then we will see how it is affecting the shell fish and how it accumulates around the rocks
