Re: End of Term Tests. Understanding the Grades

My two daughters are at Salesian also. The one time that grades are important is at the M4 stage. They will insist on grades above 3 (I think). That is taken as anaverage over the last 3 years (M1,M2,M3). If they don't achieve that then they're booted out to find another school. I think this is disg...

Re: Fire at Sam Phan Nam Floating Market

Seems I was wrong on all counts. Sam Phan Nam does indeed cover a much larger area although Hua Hin Market 'appears' bigger. It does indeed advertise cultural shows etc along with boat tours, although Hua Hin Market advertises elephant shows which I know to be untrue. The info I can find does say th...

Re: Fire at Sam Phan Nam Floating Market

Okay, guys, Looks like I'm going to have to eat humble pie. I haven't been to that market for about a year and I don't remember the lake being that big. I do remember the black swans and the 'swan boats' but it must have changed somewhat as I've never seen any live shows and I was there at least twi...

Re: Fire at Sam Phan Nam Floating Market

This articel seems very misleading (curious about the source). Firstly, some of those pics are not of the market (first left after the main one). Secondly, it is the smaller of the two. I've never seen the type of watercraft described or a live show. My daughters dance on stage at the main one on 11...

Re: End of Term Tests. Understanding the Grades

Mr. Plum, 4 is the highest grade, not 5 as you suggested. That means she was excellent in English and with you as a father, it's expected. A grade of 2.51 is in the average section. I have two daughters. One is always well above 3 but the youngest is like your daughter, grades around 2.5. Anything h...

Re: Bangkok's "bodysnatchers"

"We rely on donations" (and what we can take off the bodies) When my wife's first husband was killed in a road accident, she was notified to identify the body. No watch, no wallet and no gold. Not even his shoes! Of course, nobody knows what happened to them. I heard many stories the same when I liv...

Re: Thailand rated number 1 for expats

Quote from the website: Thailand ranks 1st out of 37 countries thanks to a combination of relatively high earning expats residing in the country, coupled with lower spend required for everyday essentials. Expats report having to spend less than average on a number of important day-to-day expenses in...

They do have various car-boot sales in Bangkok. Just the same as the UK ---- someone's rubbish is someone else's treasure!

That's happened to me a couple of times on a Samsung. A reboot always sorts it. Minor irritation.

Quote: Am I allowed to paint my own house (don't really want to, but I would do it properly), or does this fall into the crazy employment laws here? Answer yes you can as there is no payment you are therefore not working. Sorry, Sarge, you're wrong. A few years ago a farang was arrested on Soi 88 w...

Yes, BB, I'm with 3BB and the other ones I tried are also with 3BB so maybe it was their problem.

Re: thai blacklist

This may seem like a funny story but it's perfectly true. Some years ago, a guy living in Cha-am was booted out for running a taxi service. He got cocky and was advertising using his own name. When he got back to the UK, he changed his name by deed poll (a very simple procedure), got a new passport ...

Re: Cannot access Lloyds Bank website

This afternoon I tried on a friend's computer. I got varying results. Sometimes I was able to log on then the next page was unavailable. I even got to putting in my 'memorable information' followed by 'unavailable'. However, I tried again about an hour ago on my own computer and everything appears t...

Yes it is in English. Make sure your wife asks for it in English or you may get it in Thai.

Re: Lloyds Bank

I don't understand this one bit. Seems you guys can get in but I've tried IE, Google Chrome and Firefox and each time I'm told the website is not available.

The one I'm after is lloydsbank.com

Been using it for years without a problem.
