Re: Hua Hin Sunset Half Marathon

Thanks mate. My oldest fancies a go at the 21 km but I think better for her to start with the 10.5 km.

Re: Hua Hin Supermarkets

I wouldn't rely too much on Wiki mate. As in Thailand, anyone can shop at Makro in South Africa, both in-store and online.

Interesting to see the colonialism raising it's ugly head in the posts of some folks here. "Why should anyone write anything but English language here. We live in Thailand." :D :D
Well, I know Xhosa Is not permitted.

Re: Hua Hin Supermarkets

I have the Makro card but I'm not sure what Nereus means by a 'day card', it's free and it lasts for a year or forever (not sure, I don't have it in front of me). They scan it each time you go to the till. Show your passport to the front counter when you enter and they'll process it. When they firs...

Re: Thailand has become new 'e-waste' dumping ground, police say

There are actually two guys who pass by our place every once in a while. One buys things like old TVs, computers and etc. while the other has various commodities which he offers in return for old mobile phones no matter how badly damaged they are. I only learned about this by chance one day when my ...

Which begs the question - Where can I 'dump' my e-waste?

I have old computers, a couple of ovens, defunct water pump and more. I don't have a clue what to do with it!
Take it to any scrap merchant and they will take it and even pay you something for it. :D

Will check from time to time if I remember lol. I am in no shape to take part myself, but I'm sure my oldest girl would be happy to give it a bash. :D

Re: Hua Hin Sunset Half Marathon

I've checked out the link and checked both the Thai and English versions. Of all the events being advertised, the Hua Hin Sunset Half Marathon is the only one which is not clickable, so basically no information available for anyone who would like to take part.

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization

I sort of have mixed feelings about this. To be honest, if I really think about it seriously, then I have to admit, at least to myself, that I probably wouldn't be here today if Thailand was like Malaysia or Singapore. In fact, I am almost 100% certain. When I first came to Thailand in 1997, I fell ...

Re: What's Happened To The Water Supply in Hua Hin?

Well, Mr whoever would look like a right numpty if he arrive to take samples here were we stay in Soi 6 because on most days he would need to use bottled water from 7/11for his samples considering that we do and always have only got water on random occasions. We're always being told it will improve,...

As an added bonus, Saw Palmetto is dead easy to grow in your garden as long as it is not in full sun. Quite a common ingredient in Isaan food.

Re: Govt crackdown on Airbnb, declares bookings illegal

Okay, if a husband and wife are coming on holiday with their three kids, aged 5, 7 and 9, what are their options as far as hotel accommodation is concerned? Do they all cram into one large room, where Mom and Dad are then unable to share any "romantic" moments, or do they rent two rooms which essent...

Re: Govt crackdown on Airbnb, declares bookings illegal

Personally, I think AirBnB is great, and especially for families with children, and/or those who prefer more of a home-stay experience. I'm sure you can find "party houses" on the site, but from what I have seen, the vast majority of owners stipulate "No Events" in their terms and conditions. Rather...

Re: Any vegetarian restaurants in Hua Hin?

At the crossroad near the day market in town where the Baht buses leave, great food to eat in or take away at 25 baht per dish. Been eating there for 15 years and always tasted great. Once found a Caterpillar in my krapow though . Am I missing something here? Since when krapow a vegan dish? Even if...

Re: Locations that serve a "good" Amercian / English breakfast.

Well, from the picture posted, it looks like a good breakfast for only 135 baht, but to be honest, I think the chef could improve on their scrambled egg making skills. :D
