Re: Which is the Best Area In Hua Hin to Settle?
My seeing eye smells a troll.... :troll: Lung Per, I assure you I am not a troll. I would rather go back to being a passive observer than an active participant, if being the latter is going to upset people. I learnt long ago that "local knowledge" is a valuable tho' underated commodity, a...

Re: Which is the Best Area In Hua Hin to Settle?
Great, thanks guys. i asked for-and deferred to local knowledge-a valuable souce of information, and all you did was smart-mouth me. I hope I can repay the favour one day. If you can't help-don't hinder.

Which is the Best Area In Hua Hin to Settle?
O.K. If this doesn't set the cat among the pigeons, I don't know what will! (BTW, that's not the point of this post, it's just an honest endeavour to pick the brains of people in the know, i.e. YOU!!) Simply, which is best: North or South? I guess by way of clarification we should agree some ground ...

Re: Seeking engineers, can you help?
I haven't seen "Madagascar 2", but I'm fairly sure I'm being-unjustifiably-insulted. There's no ulterior motive, no malice or evil intent, I'm just ambitious enough to know I want to build something-not a house-and honest enough to know my limitations. As I said in an earlier post,...

Re: Seeking engineers, can you help?
He, He! There's no "cunning plan" Dannie boy, I was just having a "Baldrick" moment. :D What it is, is that when I retire to HH I will need a project to stop me getting into mischief-something I'm sure most of you can relate to. I tend to be a bit of a well-intentioned-but impati...

Re: Can you help??????
The wider the better, Dannie boy, the wider the better. Anyone with an engineering/mechanical background will be able to help, as my expertise in these areas is, well, um, limited. What's your field?

Re: Breaking a glass in a bar
I take your point, GLCQ, perhaps," largish" is more accurate, and bear in mind it takes the average Thai about 2minutes to see-understand-react, by which time I'm long gone. The last time I did it was in the electrical department at Central shopping centre when I was trying to buy a CD pla...

Re: Police crackdown on use of phones, TV by drivers
When I was working in Bangkok a few years ago, there was a running theme that my Thai colleagues wanted me to give them a comical English nickname. With some people, the nickname just seems to find them: tall people called "tiny" for example.Other people somehow just don't inspire anything ...

Re: Breaking a glass in a bar
Paying for the glass and "voting with your feet" is missing a trick. What I've done in the past, when someone p*ssed me off is, I've paid the bill, shown them a large wedge of cash in my wallet and said "Sawatdee." That way they KNOW I-and more importantly, my money- won't be back.

Re: Understanding Thai females
Interesting! My Thai wife and I have been together nearly 12 years, and married for 10. In all my previous relationships I'd quietly admired the stoicism of my partner in dealing with the monthly demons, and I have to say that my Thai wife is the only one who's ever complained. (Boy! Does she compla...

Re: 300 baht wage to be imposed no matter what...apparently
O.K. But how much of a raise is that? I would imagine that, as a percentage, it's a very small amount. 300b a day equates to 6,600b/month (22 working days), and even low paid people are pulling in more than that.

Re: How early can I extend annual Non Imm "O" visa?
If you have a good reason to do it earlier than in the 30 days before expiry period (for instance you have travel plans) it can be done. Best to explain your situation and it won't hurt if you can show them some 'proof' like ticket and/or hotel reservation. And a brown envelope with some dosh in! J...

O.K. You've dragged it outta me-I'm a pilot  I know there's a no-sail zone north of the pier, are there any restrictions on flying near special K's place? Does anyone know what the flying scene/plane ownership situation is in Thailand? Does anyone know the GDP of Venezuela? 2 out of 3 and I'l...
