Re: Borrowing 'Show' Money to Obtain Visa

Years ago, it was quite "common practice" for people to borrow money to make the financial savings requirements and then immediately pay back. Of course, I don't know exactly how widespread it was but it was a well known loophole in the regulations that could be used if necessary. Imm aren't daft an...

Yes, I forgot that a double digit score would be a major result for you so far this season.

Re: ATMs Down

Hmmmm - anyone remember this story from a couple of weeks ago? https://huahinforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=36862 I tried to check my balance on Kbank website around 9am this morning and whilst I got through eventually it was painfully slow and timed out twice. I just put it down to a temporarily d...

Re: IKTS 2018/2019

I'd missed that. My shortfall is +40. +115 showing on the HHF league but I've got +155 so far. If they haven't added the final game last night, Newcastle vs Chelsea (I had +30) and the banker bonus (+10) then that accounts for it. Or possibly the Fulham game (+10) and Chelsea? They both kicked off a...

Re: GBP vs THB

I'm no economist, but I think the advantage of having large foreign reserves is that you can buy your own currency in large enough amounts to prop it up if necessary. That might be over simplistic but I think that's the general aim. Another factor of course is that the GBP is weak so it's not all ab...

Re: GBP vs THB

I'm not 100% certain but I think that a lot of it has to do with the stability of the Thai economy and their foreign reserves. Thailand can sort of manipulate their way out of economic trouble because they have huge foreign currency reserves - supposedly. Unfortunately, the UK and a lot of other wes...

Re: All UK expats in Thailand urged to get private health insurance

I don't know whether anyone has had to apply for an income letter from The British Embassy lately. I had to do and the tick boxes at the bottom under a survey about "do you have insurance or not" was there. At the same time, Thai visa.com published a thread that just doesn't stop. Personally, I simp...

Re: Great service at immigration - transferring visa to new passport

I needed the letter when I last got a new passport in 2014. The British Embassy knew about it and included it with the new passport without my asking for it, FOC. I've no idea if HH Imm are still asking for it now but they wouldn't transfer the stamps at the time unless I had that letter. Thinking a...

Re: Extension of Visa Exemption Extension

I'm not sure whether Bluport can do it but they should be able to get another 7 days. Technically, that won't be an extension but rather they'll be given 7 days grace to leave the country. Obviously, it amounts to the same thing. I believe they'll just need to show the same docs and photocopies as t...

Re: IKTS 2018/2019

Yes, losing a banker is bad news especially if everyone else has secured theirs. But sometimes you've just got to gamble especially if one of the x3 teams are at home. Last season, I lost count of the number of times I woke up and checked my scores. "-10, -10 -30 (banker) etc etc. Nearly had a heart...

Re: Chinese tourists (and their habits) surge into Thailand

Gosh, as an old, white person who's lived here for 20 years and has been married to a Thai for longer than I care to remember, it's nice that I'm appreciated and can't get any red carpet treatment.
C'est la vie.
