In my experience (three visits), I've found Thais generally to be warm. I'm a polite bloke, usually, unless someone is being overtly antagonistic towards me for no evident reason, so I say please and thank you, demonstrating respect for the people I meet...and I smile ! It's amazing what a smile can...

During the recent Songkran in HH, my g/f was making her way home on her moto when two locals did a pincer movement on her, knocked her off her bike and tried to steal any money she had, which thankfully was nominal. What wasn't nominal, was the cost of repairing her bike. I was sad to hear of this k...

Last time I had Jaegermeister was in Iceland - me an Dori Stori drank a bottle of it while watching the Rally of Iceland, thinking it would keep us warm. However, we ended up talking utter gibberish in one of the remote places on earth, discussing all sorts of theories on life, death and sex until w...

Why do people always assume that the younger girl in company with a mature chap is a hooker ? And don't let me have a stream of allegations that I'm naiive, I'm up to my neck in allegators as it is ! Ok, it may be one's assumed role to be a "sugar-daddy" and whilst not exactly handi...

Great topic ! When I attempted to french-kiss my thai g/f, she jumped back, saying "why you try to eat my mouth" ? "This not like thai way to kiss", which she then demonstrated, with lips firmly puckered, not easing open like the yoni of the Khama Sutra..... She now knows better....

My wife died of cancer in 2002 and my daughters are 33 and 29, living with their respective partners in Germany and England, so the question is academic. Nevertheless, would I hypothetically "take my family" to Hua Hin ? Of course, why ever not ? My activities are never offensive t...

And to put another perspective into the cooking-pot, I'm 59, fit and healthy and not too unprepossesing, quite well-heeled although not exactly "wealthy", after forty years hard labour in a professional capacity in the UK, and I've been to Thailand three years running. I had already done t...

Meanwhile.............I've tried a Pineapple international phone card, to call Thai mobile from UK, and....IT'S BRILLIANT ! Incredible value for money. My fifty quid card had sixty quids worth of time (special offer) and it just lasts and lasts and lasts. Having used for a month now, every other day...

Hi Jacktheripper, I've been 30 times to Iceland, in the days when I was an international rally driver, I have competed on the Iceland International Rally 11 times ! It's a fantastic country. The thought of 100 fun-loving, crazy Icelanders arriving in Hua Hin stirs my soul !! Wish I was there as the ...

I will be watching for feedback on your trip, if you have the time, as Koh Chang is on my list ! It looks a lot less "developed" (ie commercialised) than Samui and that's what attracts me ! Safe travels.

Why do I get the feeling you're getting "teed-up" for a paternity suit, Buksida. I can testify that you weren't there, (you and I were somewhere else that night)....Koh Samui - or maybe that's where Island girl comes from !!!

Thanks Buksida ! How kind ! Been incredibly busy since I got back from HH end-Jan. Don't know where the time has gone.... Will be in Russia, salmon-fishing three separate weeks this year in the Kola Peninsula so the prospect of a quiet life is remoter than the wilderness !! Have been told that Koh C...

I can echo this impression, although not as vociferously. I prefer a quieter resort but the market will evolve and if the visitors dry-up, so will the get-ricj-quick operators.... :?

Thanks guys. Never thought of phone cards - mental block, as I've used them in the States to phone home and they do save fortunes, just never thought of buying one to phone from the UK to Thailand.... Duh !

Cheers.
