Re: Our Car Memories

My first car was a Vauxhall HB Viva, bought in the dark....as we all know, not the best idea. The following morning I found out why it was a 'bargain', more holes than a colander. After that: Triumph 2000, Ford Cortina MK2 1500 GT, Ford Capri 1600, Datsun Sunny coupe, Mini, Vauxhall Belmont, Vauxhal...

Re: Looking for a pool villa south of soi 94

There are plenty around on the resale market. It all depends what your budget is. I know of a very nice one, very well maintained and on a small well looked after development just off soi 112. Look out for the Royal Garden Resort and its the first house on the left as you enter through the gate. I h...

Re: Looking for Landscaping Company

We used a women on soi 112 opposite Zebwer restaurant....Aey's Garden. We found her to be very good and with good prices for healthy, strong plants. Her garden is not big, but she has a lot of choice and can get whatever plants you need, I think. I don't know her phone number, but there's a big sign...

Re: Christmas

Now I am living in the UK again I have realised how much I hate Christmas. All I have heard is the radio playing christmas songs, the television christmas adverts and repeats of old programmes for the last month. It was not that bad when I lived in Hua Hin. The commercialisation is ridiculous, the ...

Re: Things to look out for when driving in Thailand

Actually, flashing your headlights in the UK is misinterpreted my most drivers. It doesn't mean that you are letting the other driver through. A common misconception.
It's actually used correctly in Thailand. Surprise, surprise.

I stand corrected :D :thumb:

Re: Thai Driving Licence 2019

Robinhood, if you go to a good rental company, such as the sponsor on here, insurance should be included in the car hire price. Coming from the UK, I would say in built up areas watch everything and everybody. Drive slower than you would probably do in the UK, this will give you more time to see wha...

Re: Thai Driving Licence 2019

Hi, I got my first licence in October in Pranburi. I had to go to immigration and get 2 letters of residence (1 for car licence and 1 for motorcycle licence). I then needed 2 health certificates, got from San Paolo Hospital. I took these along with my passport and International Driving Permit to the...

Re: BKK moderately priced hotel by skytrain

It depends on what you call moderately priced. My wife and I are in our mid fifties now and don't really do the nightlife scene. When we stay in Bkk, we use the Holiday Inn Bangkok, on Ploen Chit Road. It's right next to the skywalk and rail system. Only 100m from the Erawan Shrine and very close to...

Re: Furniture for New Condo

Hi Ratsima and welcome to HH. We did similar last April and top of our list were 2 mattresses. Big Kiang and Index are very good for many things, but we ended up getting our mattresses from a small shop just south of Boonthavorn. It's a small shop that only deals in mattresses and a few beds. Its cr...

Re: Approx Hua Hin resident population off season

I was about to suggest the paknampran/khao kalok area, but Barry beat me to it. We have stayed there several times and visit the area whenever we are in HH. Good beaches and sea, nice people, unhurried and clean atmosphere. I cant comment on buses as I either rent a scooter or truck when we visit. B...

Re: Best beaches round the HH area ??

Can any of you locals tell me where are the best beaches (and how to get there !) in the Hua Hin area ? Thanks. My favourite beach in the HH area is at Khao Kalok. Nice beach, clean sea and fairly clear and plenty of places to get food and drink just across the road from the beach. There are also a...
