Re: Driving Schools in Hua Hin

Maybe I missed it the two times we've been to the DMV, but I don't remember anyone taking a driving test. There's a movie they have to watch, and the thing with the strings so they can see if you're blind or not and that's about it. I honestly have never heard of a driving school here; we (my Thai ...

Re: Driving Schools in Hua Hin

Just wanted to mention that I stopped by the driving school today and they quoted me 4000 baht for 10 hours (automatic car) or 3600 baht for a manual car. They assure me that's enough to pass the test. A little scary that they're given driving licenses to people who have been behind a wheel for just...

Re: Bus to Bangkok?

Ok, an update. I bought tickets for the big bus. When I showed up to take it at 9am, I was told the bus "was lost" and would show up here in about 2 hours. The clerk then insisted I should take a mini-van. Seemed a little odd, but I couldn't wait two hours (if it was true), so I took the m...

Re: Thai Driving License

I have only a three-month visa. I don't work here. So no yellow book and no work permit. What kind of letter do I need from immigration and how do I get it? Is it even possible to get a letter, since I only have a tourist visa. Do you need an appointment to pass the test? I don't have an old license...

Re: Bus to Bangkok?

If personal space is a problem and money in no problem get a door to door taxi. 1800Bht one way I'd love to, but money IS a problem. Like I said, it's been a hell of a week. My whole life is all upside down right now (and not in a fun, happy kind of way). I'm going to Bangkok on Wednesday, so I nee...

Re: Bus to Bangkok?

Blyish if you are worried about the hospital viz you might also be worried about the speed of the van, the devil may care attitude of the driver/s and up to 17 other passengers crammed in with you. Good luck it is the fastest and most convenient means. I must admit however the bus to the sth'n term...

Re: Bus to Bangkok?

Thanks for the map, Terry. Helps a lot and it's probably what I'll do. I think the mini-buses just make more sense. I don't want to be dealing with changing transportation (I'm already stressed out about the hospital visit), so I'd rather just go to VM and then take the train.

Re: Bus to Bangkok?

Whichever bus you choose - leave yourself plenty of time to get from the drop-off point in Bangkok to wherever you need to be. Victory Monument gives easy access to the Skytrain, but check out the proximity of the stations to your meeting place. I'll probably take the minibus, since they seem the l...

Re: Bus to Bangkok?

I've been here only for a week, so I'm completely lost when it comes to directions. If I tell a taxi driver to take me to "Petchakasem road opposite the Esso station," any chance he'll know what I'm talking about?

Bus to Bangkok?

I know there are both small buses (more like vans) and larger, air-conditioned buses that go from Hua Hin to Bangkok every day. Where exactly is the departure point for the larger buses? What about the little ones? I need to be in Bangkok by 1pm for an appointment, so what's my best option? And do I...

Re: Red marks and itching like crazy!

I get the same bites if I go out after sunset without a thorough application of OFF!, a bug spray with DEET. The pharmacist gave me a cream to make them stop itching, it takes about a day to reach full effectiveness, then the itching quickly disappears. I'll post the name of it after I get home. It...
