Re: New military golf course in Khao Takiab
I have been told that this course is now open, they are offering the golf festival rate of 800 + caddie, very likely to go up at the end of the month. Memberships are 100,000 for five years, not sure if Thais are given preference or there are any special clauses or prices for farangs.

Re: Imagration of Hua Hin is going to move to Three Sisters
Correct me if I am wrong but I think the gripe here is the fact that Hua Hin are charging for something that other immigration depts don't (becuase there is no fee for that service under the current legislation) ... it has little to do with the 500 baht or whatever it works out as in Iraqi Dinars. I...

Re: Tourist numbers down in Hua Hin
I have yet to see any price reductions or special offers in Hua hin - if anything things are going up! Phuket seems to be as busy as ever but that maybe due to the airport and the fact you can fly direct without setting foot in Bangkok.

Re: Advice wanted please, seeking work in Hua Hin
The above comments are correct - not worth the risk. Hua Hin also seems to have its own tourist police gestapo that have more power than expected so often people with a work permit also get busted - "grassing up" seems to have become a popular activity in the town lately.

Very sad. Hua Hin seems to be turning into Pattaya more and more everyday.

Gardening tips and shade trees
Can anyone reccommend a good garden center and some hardy tree types, we're building our own place here and would like to get some greenery in the ground during the wet season.

Re: Live music in main bar in Hilton Hotel
What stupid comments, and this coming from the person who has made the most complaints about the moderators - nice one, very constructive. Yes- Hilton closes at 2, most amble over to the karaoke district then, there is a good latenight dance music bar there for the younger crowd. I believe th...

Re: Construction costs and general building advice
Not sure I want to revive this one with all the property fights going on elsewhere. Anyway, point taken on the building permit if we can get one we will. So can anyone provide a comprehensive list of steps to take in the process such as ... 1) Landfill 2) Well/groundwater 3) Electricity meter 4) Pla...

Re: Englishman robbed and killed in Hua Hin?
A tragic incident indeed, not sure what this reporter can achieve- the poor guy is dead and the police seem to have done their job - for now.
A stern warning to others about potential dangers here would be more productive.

Re: Construction costs and general building advice
Thanks again for the input guys, there is a lot to think about here. I know Thailand is strict on foreigners but I didnt think I could get busted for buying tiles or inspecting my own property? Is that really true? The reason for the self build is that we have a nice plot of land and didn't want to ...

Re: Construction costs and general building advice
Thank you for all the responses, I'm overwhelmed and do not know where to start! I guess we'll be buying most of the materials ourselves and building in stages as finances do not permit doing it all in one go so deadlines can be very flexible. What should we pay per sqm, ballpark, for labor for a 3 ...

Construction costs and general building advice
Hi all, I am going to build our own place here instead of buying one from a development. I know there are many pitfalls to doing this but it can also work out cost effective if done correctly plus we get what we want (in theory). Since I am new to all of this I would like to use this thread to ask q...
