Re: Snubbed middle-income retirees look beyond Thailand to SE Asia
Although not retired yet, I too, over the last few years, have been considering a different location to settle. I have a Thai wife and I have even researched the Malaysian system whereby if you agree to purchase a property of a certain value you can get a settlement visa. But, what if these neighbou...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
Here's one! I have worked in the middle east for the most part of 30 years, tax free. What will they expect from me when retired? My monthly income in Thailand will be from a forces pension and a private overseas pension. I can see headaches and frustration looming next year after retirement in March.

Re: Thai Wife's UK Visa Application Refused.
Update: 😎At last success, a few days ago my wife received her passport back from VFS with a nice 180 day multi visa in it. In hindsight should have asked for a 1 year, but was unaware she was going to get given a multi. However, we will hopefully be living in Thailand come March and may not need a t...

Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
I think the point of the alternative route is not the time taken but whether it is safer. When I drive under all that construction work, I am thinking to myself 'what are the odds'? Actually now, I think the chances are increasing of either the car being damaged or somewhat worse me or a passenger.

Yes, and I would hope less chance of a large chunk of concrete or a part of a crane landing in your lap while driving at 110kmh.

Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
That would increasingly frustrate me BB. I suppose it depends how often you need to make the journey.

Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
Trouble is, maybe a lot of people will get the same idea and start using this route and the result will be traffic jams.

Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
In the UK, Australia or the US, I am sure construction work being carried like this would have traffic safely diverted for the very reason of safety, and being allowed to pass under overhead hazards. But, as we all know TIT. We have to take care of ourselves guys. Be careful out there.

Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
This is so bad now that I am considering using the alternative route via Nakhom Pathom. Has anyone also thought about it or even used that route? With the heavy traffic sometimes heading towards the Praew Pradang junction from Samut Sakhon I wonder on the time difference.

Re: Wise formerly Transferwise
Wise in effect do not do the transfer as international, that's why their fees are less. They use their own bank so to speak within each receiving country and do a local transfer. This is also the reason they can complete in minutes or even seconds. But, Thailand can be different as we all know. My t...

Re: Thai Wife's UK Visa Application Refused.
Thanks for the update Dannie Boy. I was discussing the matter with a colleague of mine who's wife was refused some years ago and he gave me a list of suggested info to back up the application. Including a 'Scrap Book' of us together either here in Saudi or in Thailand, as well as pile it on thick re...

Thanks guys. So if we transfer our "savings" this year before I retire in Thailand and ultimately become a tax resident we are OK?, for now.

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
One thing I forgot to mention is we are not yet living full time in Thailand, so I take it we are exempt for the moment from tax declaration?
