Re: Hua Hin Bike Week 2010

There does seem to be some confusion. Every source I've looked at says Dec. 3-4 this year.

But yesterday, a huge pack of bikers blew in and set up a big party (much like the one pictured for last year) at the 19 rai. Very good blow-out, but how any of us would have known is beyond me!

Re: Biggles Big Band playing in Hua Hin

I forgot. Tonight there's a fine British blues guitarist, Andy Martin, playing at Souay Vista Social Club, a new place on soi 94. It's nearly a kilometer from Petchkasem, and there's a 'jog right' in the road. Don't give up, you'll get there.

Show time is 9 to 11pm approximately

Re: Snakes and their behavior

The exception to this is with pit vipers...they're the most dangerous snakes in Thailand...through their agressivness. They don't give ground and can strike without much warning. Actually the pit vipers are not aggressive, just stupid really. They are ambush predators that rely on camouflage. They ...

Re: The new Bangkok Hospital in Hua Hin

Latest news and its good news---The scheduled opening date is getting near and I cant believe it but its going to be on time. We will be opening the Emergency facilities the first week of November and there is every indication that the opening of Phase 2, the out-patient Clinics, in April will be o...

Re: Weird visit -- Census?

Most American communities do not allow high walls. In Alameda, California I couldn't have a fence more than waist high and the required setbacks rendered my yard larger than my house.

South of the Rio Grande, I believe it's considered mandatory. :o

Eddie at El Murphy's once bragged to me that his Mexican cuisine was absolutely authentic...because his cooks had trained in Chiang Mai! :rasta:

Re: Biggles Big Band playing in Hua Hin

Yes, there are literally hundreds of small events, concerts and festivals around town and whoever is responsible for marketing them obviously only wants to do it in Thai using a few tacky posters dotted here and there. To get an idea of what does go on here and what is not publicised in English to ...

Re: Photo's of the recent floods?

Flooding in Hua Hin itself is generally very temporary, when the drains back up. But in '04, the Pranburi reservoir overflowed and took out the rail line and the prawn farms around Khao Sam Roi Yot.

Re current schedule, the band gets Tuesdays and Wednesdays off, but can be found on Tuesdays at the Souay Vista Social Club on Soi 94, about 1 km off Petchkasem. Ref The Hua Hin Arts Guide, http://huahinartsguide.com/current/tuesday-05-october/

Re: Jazz in the Town

Realize it's late in the day, but 2008 was the first and only year of 'Jazz in the Town'. I think the Tessabaan lords decided to put their resources into taking the Jazz Festival back from the promoters who had hijacked it and turned it into a youth beach party. They're making progress. This year's ...

Ah good. Incognito from UK are coming. They were supposed to have played at the Frappe Fiesto at the Springfield, but were a no-show. I'll look forward to seeing them.

Seems like the headliners are also now more evenly distributed between the two stages.

Re: Music Venues (Thai)

Regarding 'Pluawan' (actually PlearnWan). They do have a bar upstairs which has an excellent Thai acoustic duo (recording artists from Bangkok) on the weekends. I would quite recommend it on Frday, Saturday, Sunday. It's popular. Also, you might check out '100 Pub', which is at a new location next t...

Re: Art classes and such?

Baan Sillapin is the main place for art classes. The Vic Hua Hin has some very interesting workshops on earth scupture, right up to full-scale architecture. Check them both out for sure.
