Wedding gifts customs?

My wife and I are invited to a party at a restaurant to celebrate the marriage of local friends. Would bringing a gift to the gettogether be customary and polite?

Expat social gettogethers

Is this still going on? It's a great idea. . . perhaps if it were held in the same place each week or every two weeks word could get around without folks having to check and communicate each week (?) Newlife, still interested?

Cockerel Mews just off soi 88 and just the mountain-side of the rr tracks has three in it's smallish complex (about 8 or 9 units), pool for the whole complex; beliee she asks b22,000 for the houses but I'm pretty sure in low season she's take less.

For what it's worth, I've been getting my visas in Bangkok, just to avoid the local hassles I hear so much about. Never a problem, nor bribe, nor runaround.

Another long-time lurker here. . . requesting entry (and, as suggested, keeping expectations reasonably low). . . .

Might see if the one or two "professional" massage folks in the area have one, and ask them where they got it. (Try Chiva Som en route to Khao Takiab.)

Chas- I think the women in the men's room is an Asian thing, not just Thailand. It was & is very common in China, Vietnam, et al. I sort of like it, because it reflects a culture where there's no big deal about simple & universal bodily functions. They certainly couldn't care less about the ...

At Starbucks, part of the exorbidant price problem may be what you order. . . i.e. "a medium roast" may leave them free to give you some high-priced blend. I always order a "daily drip, small" and it's always 55 baht.

Several (perhaps many?) restaurants have a "vegetarian" section in their menus. . . (but see previous caution). Two I think of are Orchids (part of Fulay on the street closest to the beach not far from the Hilton) and Take 5 on the right side of the maid drag in Khao Takiab.

It is packed, and (for me, anyway) FAR TOO PACKED! They're parking on football field a mile away, etc etc. Street in Takiab completely jammed.. .. it's far too narrow a street for all the traffic. Next year (?) they really should move it much closer to HH, at least to where the divided road begins e...

I too have enjoyed All in Hua Hin in recent months. . . good food, reaspnable prices, friendly staff. . . frankly never did understand what the prior complaints were about, but perhaps they've changed a lot several months back.

Friends have informed that it is available, and typically excludes what the condo association insurance covers, i.e., damage to the basic structure of the building itself; often windows are also the responsibility of the individual owner. So the individual condo owner is responsible for damages to a...

For what it's worth, the same "dual pricing" system exists in (P.R.) China, and in many (most? all?) "poor" countries. Increased serenity comes from a combination of the mental gymnastic of viewing the foreigners' price as the "normal" price (invariably cheaper than at ...
