Re: Demise of AWOL magazine

Sad indeed but I'm afraid it is a sign of the times.

I will miss it, used to pick up a copy each week

Crossword and page three were my favourites - and Margret's from Hull article as well

Re-registration of all SIM cards ordered

Bangkok Post today has this article on the compulsory Re-registration of Sim cards Extract and link copied below. I can understand the theory - but in practice...?? for example a lot of people just spend three to six months per year here The telecom regulator plans to force all mobile firms to re-re...

Re: Visa run from Hua Hin...which one?

Kanchanaburi certainly would be easiest. I have done an organised Visa Run there a couple of times with the shop at Condochain, "One Tour", there are others available but I have found this firm to be pleasant and reliable. Think their phone is 081-8192212 or 091-8214826. They give an all-in price - ...

Re: Pros & Cons of Kite Surfing

I have to agree wholeheartedly that the Kite surfers should relocate. Hua Hin is a family resort and I have seen so, so many near accidents in recent years where people swimming or paddling in the sea have been terrified or nearly hit by irresponsible Kiters and people walking on the beach nearly hi...

Re: Looking for a nice place to get in shape// Fitness

I have been using @Lectic for a couple of years - they are having a bit of a much needed upgrade at the moment which is good news. I am happy there, I like the staff they are friendly and there are some good classes included in your membership.

Bouys on the Beach

Yesterday at the beach I noticed lines of buoys and floats being laid offshore, starting off the Hilton beach and heading south. they are there again today and making steady progress. Their is an enormous barge full of the yellow floats and smaller vessels actually laying them. There are gaps presum...

Re: Demolition of restaurants + shops in Poon Suk road

Heard nothing recently but apparently the Guy who leases the land from the Railway where the "Dark Side" after hours bars are wants to clear them out and open a Food Court. Same Guy that opened the Plaza area on Bintabaht.

Re: Hin Lek Fai Monkeys

I am told that the monkeys in Hua Hin area are crab-eating macaque (Macaca fascicularis). At quiet times you can see them diving and swimming in the sea at Khao Takiab. They can pull the shellfish off the rocks with their very strong fingers. They annoy the fishermen on the creek behind the mountain...

Re: Visa Tour

I booked a Visa Run to Kanchanaburi / Phu Nam Ron with "One Tour" the agency with the office at Condochain. All went well - picked up at my hotel at 8am and back in my room by 4:30pm. All was included in the price; coffee and sandwich stop, the minibus between the two border posts, lunch (Phat Thai ...

Re: Delays at airport immigration

It's a bit of an unusual year - prior to Christmas / New Year it was very, very quiet with a lot of people getting seriously worried about the season. Hotels were pretty full of course over New Year period but it costs a fortune to come for that break. Since then the Airlines, Hotels & Tour operator...

Re: Something for rice lovers to think about

When you think about the proportion of the worlds population that have a rice based staple diet - and for how long this has been the case, I can't see how the arsenic levels can be dangerous? I understand that there are particular problems in Bangladesh. A few years ago I had blood tests for arsenic...

I think the majority of Thais come under the "not good sailors" heading.

I wouldn't fancy this crossing on anything other than a very calm day - going to be very uncomfortable today if it actually operates

Re: Tough action against Hua Hin beach encroachers

I had lunch at one of the restaurants down there today, it was very pleasant; nice view, light wind and good food. It will be a very great shame if this area which is one of the very few examples still in existence of what was one of the prettiest little towns in South East Asia back in 1987 when I ...
