Re: Forum behavior

I think it's important not too have too thin a skin on anonymous forums. Agreed, but it's also important to recognise that this isn't an entirely anonymous forum. Many of the regular posters have been forum members for ten years or more and know each other away from the forum. Even if we haven't me...

Not content with a sock, Albert (right of picture) also stuffed his pyjamas down his pants.

Re: Caption Competition

Much to Henry's disapproval, Linda liked to keep a record of her former boyfriends.

Re: Chevrolet Zafira 2.2

And knowing Henry and Linda (petrol heads, the pair of them!), it's been well looked after. If I was still there I'd snap it up.

By the way, VS, don't forget to find out if you're entitled to some refund from the Thai 'social services'.

Re: Back in the UK after 14 years

Thanks VS. As you know, I had some previous brushes with serious illness (DVT and lymphoma) in Thailand, and although it wasn't all plain sailing, overall they saw me through it. I have no real complaints, though it has to be said that Mrs D-M provided most of the nursing, and I'm not sure I'd have ...

Re: Back in the UK after 14 years

I think I mentioned earlier in this thread how much the advances in technology surprised me - banks, card payments, etc. I've just been diagnosed with throat cancer - no need to panic, I'm told it's been detected at a very early stage (I lost my voice for 3 weeks while rehearsing for My Fair Lady - ...

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization

Google is obviously your friend.
I'm sorry, I obviously misunderstood your original point. I thought we were talking about how the British Empire ended, not whether there was ever any opposition to it in the first place, which goes without question.

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization

I doubt very much if the 'colonials' agree with though. They would in Canada in 1867 and Australia in 1901. All very civilised and a natural progression from colony to nation. There are others. Yes, there are many others. Perhaps lapthingy is just think of the War of Independence, which was ...

Anyone willing to admit that they've ever taken part in one of these? Pete  No, but when I was 19 during my gap year in France I was stupid enough to take part in one of these... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3tT4czGl48 Note the football - there's supposed to be a game taking place!

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization

Europtimiste, I'm sure everyone understands exactly what you mean, but the simple fact is that you're wrong. You can't use the fact that English isn't your native language, as the words and their meanings are virtually identical in French. This is not a matter of words games: occupation is not ident...

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization

Were Belgium, France, etc. colonised by the Germans during WW2? I think not.
