There no special circumstances that apply to this as far as I'm aware

Re: 'How To' - Requirements for visa extensions etc

My extension based on retirement was set to expire on 29 June 2025, but I recently had a death in my family back in the U.S.A. and I want to attend the funeral. I talked with Phetchaburi Immigration and they said that under special circumstances I could renew it 45 days before the expiration date. I...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income

Sounds good. From my reading the Thai tax code does not differentiate between Thais and non-Thais – if you spend 180 days or more you are a Thai tax resident. Also agree that they probably saw a significant decline in foreign income coming into Thailand from both Thais and expats, and from I read th...

Re: The Wine Thread

I am primarily a red wine drinker and am always looking for a decent bottle of red wine for under 1000 baht. It has been a year since the big announcement about reducing the tax on imported wine, but based on my observations, I have not found any real reductions. Recently, I have found myself going ...

Re: Thailand to introduce compulsory travel insurance/tourist tax

Based on other reports about this tax:

One hand says that we are Thai tax residents, so we must pay Thai income tax.
Another hand says that we are really tourists, so we must pay this Thai tourist tax.

Both hands are really just saying that we are thought of as being an ATM……

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income

I'm really looking forward to sitting in the sun whilst some official decides my what fate might be from reading English paperwork that they don't understand. And then tell me to get verification from a trusted source that simply won't give it. I can't wait for the experience. And the really depres...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income

The seminar was primarily targeted at accounting firms in the region and was conducted in English. Officials confirmed that expatriates residing in Thailand for at least 180 days within a tax year are classified as tax residents, meaning that any foreign income they transfer into Thailand is subjec...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income

On other forums, people are saying that their regular home country financial documents - showing how much tax they have already paid - are being accepted by their local tax office without any special stamp or seal. Further, others are saying that their local tax office has told them that they do no...

As I have expressed before, it will be navigating the Thai bureaucracy that will be the problem. Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income

Maybe some good news. We will just have to wait and see if any of this will apply to us. But, maybe it means that wealthy Thais are pushing back on the new tax requirement. Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income

Interesting. Hope the link works - it works fine on my Word document..... I like his comment that: the TRD was not in the business of refusing offers to redress its revenue shortfall. Tax officers were, at the government’s behest, looking for extra cash and would not turn away any Thai or foreigner ...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income

Unfortunately, I believe the requirement for home country stamps/seals may negatively impact many of us. In the U.S. at least, seals and stamps are not very common when getting paperwork from U.S. bureaucracies or banks – letterhead is the norm. The tax treaty between the U.S. and Thailand exempts U...
