Re: Hua Hin hospital special medical clinic
Hi, I've been following threads about the Premium Clinic/SMC Clinic for a few years now. I always thought SMC seemed a reasonable offer for Falangs who were prepared to pay a little more to avoid the worst of the queues at HH Hospital. This year it feels like SMC have reduced the services offered, m...

Re: Electricity and Water Charges
Can anyone confirm the details of the Consumer Act regarding only charging the utility rates? I know a small business owner who is paying 7 Baht a unit, and is not allowed to see the electricity meter. Apparently, twice as many UNITS are being used March 2024 as March 2023. I want to suggest some po...

Re: Affirmation to marry to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and agent in Bangkok
I've been quoted 3,400 Baht and 6,000 Baht for getting the Affirmation of Marriage and Passport Certified translated, and stamped by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If I can find a translation agency near the British Embassy that can turn the translation around on the spot, I might try to take...

Re: Affirmation to marry to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and agent in Bangkok
Did this service include getting approval and stamp from the legalization division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?
How much did the translation and approval at the Ministry cost, and how long did it take?
Thanks

Re: Thailand ranked 'very low' in English proficiency index
What's the point of an English proficiency index?
If I conducted a Thai proficiency test in my hometown, in The U.K. The result would contain a zero ot two

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
I’ve never knowingly used that form but have been asked to submit a tax return every year since I retired. As non-resident you are not allowed/supposed to use the HMRC website but have to use proprietary software that is readily available - I’ve always been granted my personal allowance to offset t...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
UK Personal annual tax allowance - I perhaps mistakenly thought the annual allowance was automatic. However, I came across a HMRC webpage saying that only a few limited categories get the personal allowance automatically, and that most people who are non-resident need to claim this annually on a HM...

Re: ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK Movies at Hua Hin Cinema
The film "The Creator", seems to be loosely set in Thailand/SEA and bizarrely for a sci-fi film has a line about bar girls in Hua Hin!

Re: An Away Day with Ratchaburi Football Club - Photo Report
Nice report BB. There's nothing like away football travel to get out and about in Thailand. I've just returned from a 4 day excursion to see a local team play away. Thoroughly enjoyed it, even if the result didn't go the right way!

Re: Farang buying a house with a Thai lady
HHTel, I think you are correct about a Thai National having to make a separate claim in the UK. I think the Thai National would have to show some connection with the UK such as living there.

Re: Farang buying a house with a Thai lady
All sounds fair on the Thai side. Could a Thai lady seek a divorce settlement in the UK? (both the farang and Thai national live in Thailand and make occasional visits to the UK.

Re: Marriage and protecting UK Assets
Hi, I'm planning to marry a Thai lady. We have been together for about a year. I don't have any assets in Thailand, but I have a property in the UK and a couple of modest pensions from UK institutions. We both live in Hua Hin. If the marriage doesn't work out, are my UK assets at risk? From my resea...
