Re: Ao Noi
Ao Noi is really pleasant, at least it used to be when I lived in Hua Hin. Very relaxed. I have been there a few times.

FA cup is good but I have to think, if it's better than a solid Premier league performance. CL would have bee...

Re: Premier League 2024-25
Maybe I am old and old-fashioned but I don't really understand this "Win a trophy quickly or get sacked"- mentality. If I remember correctly Klopp arrived at Liverpool in 2015 and won his first Premier League championship in 2019-20 so not exactly immediately. For me three second place fin...

Re: Sausage Roll Thread (split from Nanys thread)
Do they do the same as Thailand, and use coconut? Just the smell makes me urge. I have no idea of that but I doubt it. As they are supposedly of Portuguese origin, I don't think, they have any coconut in them. Portuguese egg tarts, or pasteis de nata, are known for their flaky puff pastry shells an...

Re: Sausage Roll Thread (split from Nanys thread)
Portuguese (or Macanese) style custard tarts are a big thing in Macau. I have a few occasionally as the place is full of bakeries.

Re: Visa for China
Shenzhen is actually quite nice, although not much history there. It's only an hour's ferry ride from Macau so I've been there four times. Planning to go there again for a weekend on 24th. of May.

Re: Eurovision
I haven't watched Eurovision for decades, just not my kind of music and I don't care about the show, either. However, what is interesting that there are two performances from Finland, although this "Bathe only in Sauna" -song is Sweden's chosen song but the musicians are from Swedish speak...

Re: Rail Travel From Hua Hin Thread
I've always loved travelling by trains. My first long train trip was about 40 years ago (1986) (Helsinki) Moscow to Beijing. In Thailand I've done most of the lines, the best one is the one to Chiang Mai, followed by the southern lines. There's actually four of them: Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Kantang in...

Re: Will the hi-tech cashless future leave a dinosaur like me behind?
I have just spend a weekend in Shenzhen, China. I didn't take any cash with me and paid everything using their WeChat app. I found it quite convenient. Also used the DiDi app for taxis, cheap and convenient, too.

Re: Thai household debt deeper than ever
Thanks wenshidi, I found this very interesting. I was in Bangkok for five days during the Chinese New Year and had a chance to meet my old friends and ex-students there. Particularly, my Indian friend whom I have known since the mid 90's was talking about a big slow-down in the Thai economy. In the ...

Re: Thailand tourism situation
I've only spent a night there, in the late 1990's. My memories are of a cool evening drinking local ya dong and roosters starting to make a lot of noise early in the morning. That made me catch the first bus to Chiang Mai.
