Re: RIP - A Lifelong Friend and Brother Lost

Sad situation all round. Personally I would focus on custody of the kids. As a couple of posters have indicated being named on the birth certificate means absolutely nothing as far as guardianship is concerned unless it is a legal marriage. With the father now dead and the mother likely to end up in...

Re: Is Living Here Difficult for You?

There are only three types of people who live here: those who married a Thai, those who can't afford to spend more than a tenner a day and those who are barking mad. i am number three. i blend in here. Those 3 types are not mutually exclusive. I am all three. I blend in here. Like everywhere i have...

Thanks for the advice BB. I intend to uninstall it later tonight.
I have never found the need for one and your comment has only reinforced my decision to uninstall it

Re: Microsoft Windows 7 and language

Zeitgeist many thanks for your quick reply. I had already tried that solution but to no avail.
However I think I may have identified the problem.
There is an internet download manager pre installed. Could it be that?
Ina while I am going to delete the programme anyway and see what happens

Microsoft Windows 7 and language

Being far from a computer expert I hope that one of the members can assist. I have recently purchased (in Thailand) a new laptop with Windows 7 Home Basic installed. On the surface all appears OK. Windows explorer reads fine (English) etc but when I download something from the internet for instance ...

Re: Thai bank: customer is wrong, go to another bank

How confident are you that any other Thai bank will adopt a more 'understanding' approach. I'm sure that a little 'tea money' will sort things out. :D I too have a middle name on the account and frequently deposit cheques into that account which do not bear my middle name. This is Bangkok Bank. I w...

Re: loud music at night

thanks! If police or others are not responsive, I guess the only solution is to install speakers ourselves, play louder music which scares away the tens of customers till the place is dead? If they can make noise, we probably can too? Scaring away customers will violate rule #1 of living in Thailan...

Re: UK Pensions - QROPS schemes

The biggest incentive I can see for using a QROPS scheme is that I understand that you will avoid UK inheritance tax upon death which I understand to be currently 55%. The funds must be transferred to a UK govt approved scheme but this does not mean guaranteed. They are not without risk and restrict...

Re: ATM Problem

Roel, I take your point. I was not suggesting this as an opening gambit. BB seems to think his money is already lost. I do not think so. Banks have procedures in place for this sort of thing and i am sure it will sort itself out as there will be a discrepancy between the machine and the customer req...

I would ask them to show you the reconciliation for the atm machine on the day of the problem.
Make them prove that the money in the machine was equal to the payout requests.

In any event good luck
