Re: Promoting skin cancer on Hua Hin beach; no umbrellas

I agree that I know which part of the beach I prefer to stay on, but if you look back to my original posting it was to find out exactly what the current situation is in Hua Hin and how forum subscribers read the political climate as to future restrictions on the beach vendors.

Re: Promoting skin cancer on Hua Hin beach; no umbrellas

Sorry - that is incorrect. There was always a clear walkway between the storage/food preparation area and the seats. That is how you moved between the different beach cafes. Occassionally someone would ride a pony along the path, so it was not even that narrow. I agree with you that an easily walkab...

Re: Promoting skin cancer on Hua Hin beach; no umbrellas

I am sorry Steve, but you have not understood what is proposed, nor can I see that it is a better environment for everyone when those who want beach cafes no longer have them. Half the people lose out because of the intolerance of others, who still have the majority of the beach unspoilt. If the sam...

Re: Promoting skin cancer on Hua Hin beach; no umbrellas

I do not understand this comment: << I was simply saying that the main beach in Hua-Hin needed a cleanup. When I lived in Takiap there were restaurants on the beach with umbrellas and etc, but the place still looked nice and welcoming. The same certainly never applied to one section of Hua-Hin beach...

Re: Promoting skin cancer on Hua Hin beach; no umbrellas

Thanks for your replies. Does that mean that the beach cafes to the left of the main beach access are all still there with loungers and wall to wall brollies (except on Wednesdays)? As I remember the stall holders always did clear most of the chairs and brollies away at night, as otherwise they risk...

Re: promoting skin cancer on beach/no umbrellas

Having just booked our flights to Thailand, I was horrified to read about the ban on beach umbrellas and sunbeds. Umbrellas are essential if you are not to get skin cancer. If, like me, you have a bad back, then you cannot sit on a mat. You have to have a lounger or deck chair. I also feel really so...

Re: Chinese New Year 2014

We were in HH last year during the New Year's day celebrations and there was a show around 7.30 pm in the evening at the park on soi 76 - fireworks, lion dance, acrobats, etc. It was good fun and we easily got a seat by arriving a bit early. I do not think there were any ads for it. The locals just ...

How to pronounce Hua Hin?

I read somewhere that Hua Hin should be pronounced Hoi Hin - where , I presume, Hoi rhymes with Joy?

Anyone know if this is correct?

Thanks,

Thanks for that.
The protests seem to be getting worse. Sooner or later the army will have to restore peace.
We are staying near the river across from Thon Buri and will go places like Sukhumvit road and JJ market, so we should not need to go anywhere near Bueng Kum district.
