Re: Buying a SUV?

And of course there is the new Nissan Terra due later this year which has received a good reception in the Philippines. It looks like it will be slightly different here (better) but initial reports still give the Ford Everest the top spot in comparisons. Might be worth considering if you are in the ...

Re: UK Retirees to face cuts in Pensions

Good points made and in my situation I will see what develops over the next ten years as it no doubt will change and unlikely for the better. The thread has expanded a bit from it's original point but in an interesting way and some excellent information has been presented. I do wonder about the syst...

Re: UK Retirees to face cuts in Pensions

This does throw up the question yet again of residency. I know there are people who have a PR visa status but they seem few and far between. Most are on a Non Imm O-A 90 day reporting, annual renewal type visa. Is this residency? If you maintain a UK presence i.e. an address (your kids), bank accoun...

Re: Govt crackdown on Airbnb, declares bookings illegal

AirBnB is getting a lot of flack about this but what about the other sources. How many of the local and Thai renters use either a facebook source or local contact. You only have to ask the guards at a lot of the estates and you will soon be connected to someone who rents out houses. I would hazard a...

I thought the new Honda Big Wing is before the airport on the right northbound. The Ducati showroom is much farther out.

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues

Having first settled here in 1990 I actually preferred it then. Perhaps Hua Hin has grown beyond what is needed. Are two large malls necessary and multiple Starbucks? Do we need so many drinking areas. Soi Rainoon used to be a nice residential street. Expansion yes but over expansion?

Re: Registering a Marriage with The British Embassy

In my case I got married in 1990 and had a notarized translation made as part of the process of getting her UK visa. Once in the UK I went to the registry office to check and was not only told that the marriage is fully recognized but that to ask about having a UK ceremony would cast suspicion on th...

Bit of a joke that. Criminals not named, paltry fine related to the profits. TIT.

Bicycle (MTB) parts source

I was advised by a cycling friend not to bring a good bike from abroad and am realising why now. On the rare occasion when parts are available the prices are extortionate and it can take a while to get them from abroad plus they will have to be collected from the post office after you pay the tax. T...

Re: Bringing Golf Clubs into Thailand

Depending on the airline it may be worth getting a business class ticket which would absorb the extra weight. I doubt if you would get stopped at the airport and if so You could say you will be taking them out again later or take the hit. I have brought a full set in before without any problems or b...

Re: Has Hua Hin Traffic Reached Saturation Point?

When I say that I am used to it I mean that I do not react visibly. After many years here I have learnt that is the best practice. It will always cause frustration unfortunately as that is my nature, just something I now let pass quickly as I know that all my attention is needed for driving over here.

Re: Has Hua Hin Traffic Reached Saturation Point?

It might help if the locals learned their way around. I was a totally unneccessary part of this mornings traffic. The wife asked me to take her to a place in Soi 88 and so we came into town on the Pala U road to pick up the neice before Big C. All I was told was Soi 88 and when the niece was in the ...

Re: Fine hike call for ambulance blockers

Perhaps the recent publicity has helped but as has been said, until the respect is mutual and flashing lights mean an emergency and not just a tourist escort or pizza going cold. We all know how poor the implementation of the rules is, in itself something that if addressed would reduce accidents. On...
