Re: Flights to/from Hua Hin Airport & other domestic locations
Not sure why anyone thinks the runway needs to be extended. It is now 2000m long (extended about 20 years ago when flight plans to Hong Kong and Singapore were submitted - that is why there was the overseas flights terminal upstairs and posters of Singapore, Hong Kong etc down stairs). That is long ...

Thailand Air Quality and Pollution Alerts
Looks like the big HH rubbish dump just off soi 102 is on fire. Loads of grey smoke all the way past immigration. Just driven past and fire as well as black smoke visible. Could be some interesting chemicals in the smoke ! And wont be good for the air quality index !

Re: Ceiling/roof insulation
We used 20cm qcon blocks all over the house. Both inside and outside walls. The difference in heat on the balconies of one side of the wall in direct sunlight compared to the other side in perpetual shade was enormous. I think the extra for 20cm is worth it. They are also load bearing which thinner ...

Re: Renewing a UK passport in Thailand
I did get mine done at the 3rd floor in MV a few weeks ago and they were rejected by HMPO in bkk. They saw some faint shadows around the collar. Luckily there was a shop on the ground floor who did some immediately and then I went back upstairs and all was ok. That was the trendy building. When I wa...

Re: Renewing a UK passport in Thailand
Ok. How about needing a copy of the whole passport - or was that just the girl behind the desk being awkward ?

Re: Renewing a UK passport in Thailand
Btw, picked up the passport from the new building. A lot less busy than trendy (in fact not a lot open in the new building).
Bit of a pain to get to, but the airport link getting off at makkasan works well. Then 1 stop on mrt and a free courtesy golf buggy from fortune towers

Re: Renewing a UK passport in Thailand
Just got my new UK passport (2 weeks and 1 day from leaving the paperwork at VFS in BKK !) so went into HH immigration to get my visa transferred over. First words were '500 baht'. I said I thought it was free and she said no. 500 baht service charge. I was going to argue but said ok. She then said ...

Re: Domestic Air Purifiers
404, I only measure the outside aqi to see if it is a good idea to throw open the doors and windows ! At this time of the year the PM levels are worse early morning due, I think, to the lack of wind at that time. Recently we have had 3-4 hours of very still air between 6-9;and PM levels have doubled...

Re: Domestic Air Purifiers
For many years we have used PM2.5 filter material (normally 3M filtrate) on top of the Aircon filters. Replace every month or so depending on how dirty. At this time of the year we have the Aircon on more often during the day due to the heat as well as overnight. Lounge and bedrooms. It gets the AQI...

In Nits at the moment. She tells me that her last day is 28th Feb. No sausages, so double bacon.

Minibus/van to Bangkok
In the old days it was quite easy. There were minibuses every 30 minutes or hour from sa song road, or the side road near kasikorn bank and everything went to an area near victory monument. Now, when I search, I see the medium size minivans (bigger than a commuter) from outside MV or bluport but onl...

Re: Thai Driving License renewal 2019-22
Had driving licenses here since 2005. Have to do a renewal. Will I also have to do the theory test mentioned above ? Anyone any recommendations for a quick place for the medical certificate? ( I stagger up and down hills for fun so no physical problems). Apart from the above is it :- Certificate of ...

Re: Thai applying for IDP in Thailand
Don't know if it comes down to the person you deal with, but at Vienna airport a UK photo license (not the old green one) did not need a IDP, but a Thai driving license did need an IDP. The UK license not needing an IDP was contrary to the advice I had received from the hire car company in Austria 2...
