Re: Why is the outside (offside) lane so attractive?

Agree with the two preceding posts. Just to add that on the stretch between Tha Yang and Phetchburi beware of drivers suddenly puling over to buy something at a roadside stall and also pulling out.

Re: Shipping parcels to Thailand Surface mail.

We used Pack & Send twice last year. Once for small shipment of household stuff from Sydney to Bangkok, for which we did Customs clearance ourselves. Second time was "Excess Baggage" around 40 Kg also SYD - BKK. The latter we had shipped direct to our house in Hua Hin. No problem with ...

Re: Dragon Boat Racing, Khao Tao

Good tactics getting tossed out in the first round, better than ending up too knackered to enjoy the beer. According to the ad there are 55, 30 and 23 man long boats. Also 7 man boats and, if I understand correctly, a class where there's a guy at the front guiding a blind steersman at the r...

Re: Dragon Boat Racing, Khao Tao

There's still time to go. Tomorrow is the main day apparently. According to our ice cream man, today was mainly practice and preliminaries. Ringed in red in picture: "25 - 26". Should be much more traffic as well. At least it's not a weekend.

Re: Recent Internet Speeds

Hi Farang, I'd say the latency results for today are dubious to say the least, - 5 or 6 ms to London and SF are completely impossible. Hint: speed of light (fastest possible speed theoretically attainable - and that's in a vacuum not copper and fiber) is approx 186,000 miles per second, or 300,000 k...

Re: Smartphone vs normal cell phone

Go to any IT (i.e. mobile phone) area in a shopping mall and most of the phone shops have second hand phones for sale. Market Village 3rd floor for example.

Re: Driving license

When I got my first Thai licence, I too had been driving on an International licence. However, when I went to the licence centre, they were only interested in my UK licence. As my experience was years ago, I really don't remember what they asked for (through my wife in Thai of course) but I did pre...

Re: Snakes in the garden

P1040091a964161177.jpg We've had Malayan Pit Vipers in the house before, but just for a change this cute little snake came in from the garden (to be thread appropriate). It practically fell on my wife when she closed a sliding door it must have been on top of. I think it's a young Golden Tree Snake...

Re: International Driving License - Hua Hin

Apparently IDP can be done at the provincial DLT offices - so Prachuab or Phetchaburi would be the two closest. I found an article here in Thai, dated feb 2011, announcing additional places where IDPs can be obtained. Bearing in mind Hobiecat's experience it wouldn't do any harm to check with the DL...

Re: International Driving License - Hua Hin

I think you might also be able to do it at the local dlt office. More info here: idp. Probably worth asking before making the trip to head office.

Might be worth running PC Decrapifier (or similar bloatware/crapware remover) on your new PC.

Re: Movies at Hua Hin Cinema

Hi BB, I would imagine the program will be on for at least a week, so probably "don't panic!". I do wonder, though, how easy it is for them to change language and subtitles. I don't know how many of the cinemas in the multiplex are digital, but it's at least two because I've seen 3D movies...
