Re: Any downside to retiring in Hua Hin

I think it is great that JamesWest has made the forum a lot more interesting recently. I think if you are going to give a controversial answer then you need to be prepared for a few responses that are not personal attacks, but just cheeky responses. You need to have a thick skin if you want to post ...

Re: Any downside to retiring in Hua Hin

I have to day that JamesWest views on the downsides of living here are very negative. Anyone who believes these are all downsides should leave. To get a retirement or marriage visa is really very simple and they have every right to demand that they show you have the means to take care of yourself fi...

Re: Kaeng Krachan golf course

Sorry tunafish, I just meant in my opinion it is the best 9 holes in the area. I have played the C 9 at Majestic one time. Very nice but the crazy slopes on the greens and the poor construction work spoilt it for me. Very nice setting and layout though.

Re: Thai bank suing foreigner for non repayment of loan

I think I know the story. He has Thai partners so it will be his company that is being sued. I am sure the bank will just want their money back and he must have assets otherwise they would not have leant him money.

Re: Kaeng Krachan golf course

The course was closed for a while and was just being used by Korean groups and for Korean pro events. There has been no promotion at all and is a bit of a hidden secret but yes, a very good golf course. Especially the new 9 holes. The new 9 holes is the best 9 holes in the whole area, no question.

Re: Thai bank suing foreigner for non repayment of loan

I dont think ric is talking about himself. There is no way a farang businessman would be able to borrow that sort of money from a Thai bank. He must have Thai partners and he must have assets as security. Thai banks got really tough on this sort of thing after 1998. Ric, where did you get your info?

Re: Hua Hin Water Jungle in 2014?

Well Hua Hin is going to change completely. In fact is has already from the Hua Hin I moved to 20 years ago. Traffic is going to get even worse for sure - it is already shocking. Just happy that I have 3 houses and other land plots because they are just going to go up even more and I will probably m...

Re: Lease or Company set up?

Take your time to decide what you want to buy. As has often been said before on this forum, rent for 6 months or a year. Do your investigation into who are good and bad developers and find a good lawyer. There are a lot of horror stories and going to court to sort out issues is a waste of time and c...

Re: Lease or Company set up?

Whatever you decide to do, get a lawyer to take care of your interests. There have been a lot of cases of good honest people handing over money and never getting the land lease registered in their names. It is almost always farangs cheating farangs and you will get no joy in a Thai court. Do not han...

Re: Visa runs banned after Aug 12

I know a lot of people who use Hua Hin as a home base and travel to work. In between work they come back to Hua Hin to spend their off time. Getting 30 days everytime they arrived was perfect for them because they rarely spend more than that in Hua Hin at a time. Most of them do not have the option ...

Re: Visa runs banned after Aug 12

Difficult to get a 1 year visa if you are not 50 or if you are not married to a Thai. I just got my marriage visa done while in the UK. It was no problem as long as you have the required paperwork. A few of my friends have done education visas in the past. Are they still available? They had been abl...

Re: Top 5 Reasons Expats Sometimes "Wash Out"

There are a small minority of people who find out that Hua Hin is not for them, but nearly everyone I know can't imagine ever going back to their home country again. Yes you have to like hot weather, but that should not be a surprise to any newcomers. Bangkok is rated as the hottest average temperat...

Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip

Yes, "LaughTillIDie" it is a good question. You have obviously never golfed in Thailand. Caddies are compulsory for every golfer, even if you decide to take a cart. All the more reason to not use a cart and especially when they make you take 1 cart per golfer. Carts are a great money maker...

Re: Hua Hin Golf Gossip

The question regarding why some courses only allow 1 golfer per cart, has 2 answers. For some courses it is just trying to make more money, but for others it is necessary. If you lease your carts from one of the cart leasing companies, then they only allow 2 people on a cart at any time. In Thailand...
