Golf for Longstayers?

Post by seasides »

To pay green fees each time kind of adds up in Hua Hin. Not the cheapest place for golfing!

Are there any memberships for somebody staying a few months a year in Hua Hin?

Or any other solution for somebody who doesn't really care which course to play, but for whom it's more important TO PLAY?

I believe there is a golf society that organizes this kind of thing based around Billy’s bar, but hopefully someone will give you more details as I gave up on the sport due to my inability to do a round under about 150.

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.

Golf for longstayers

Post by T.I.G.R. »

All of the big courses are 2,000 and up right now.....you'll get discounts in the fall but it's a long wait until then.

If you live south of town you can play pretty cheaply (or at least you could last year) at the Army course in Pranburi.......Not fancy but it's still golf.

The best thing is to buy a membership now while you still might be able to afford it. When we decided to move here three years ago it was a heck of a lot cheaper.....and it's only going to go up. Memberships at Lakeview and Majestic aren't even family memberships and have become quite expensive.

The cheapest regular course we've found this year was half an hour out of Lop Buri and it was 1,400 baht plus caddy fees/tips/cart etc. We treated my brother-in-law and it still cost almost 5,000 total for three of us. It's called Nara Hills.

There are three driving ranges; the one in town off the klong road, the new one past the Elephant place and a little one in Cha Am behind the second Johnny Walker sign going toward the beach. All are about the same price. Out on the north end of HH there's a little pitch and putt place that looks like it never has had a customer.....300 baht for 9 holes....not really worth it but they're building a double decker range at the back end which looks like it might be nice. It's supposed to be open late spring.

Good luck!

And if you don't mind a bit of a journey, there's a military course at Prachuabkirikhan. Ao Manao to be exact. I've played it once. There are no caddies, it's 9 holes, loads of water, not in the best of condition but long and a real test.
From what I remember, it was about 100 Baht including trolley.
A good day out. Just don't forget that there are no watering holes as you go around, so be sure to take some with you :thumb:
Here for details of local golf courses. Prices may need to be updated:

Note: Royal Ratchaburi and Dragon Hills are superb. I never minded how I played at those two. I was just happy to be there. The scenery is amazing.

Black Mountain is 3,000 ++ at the moment.

But all to young, the trees need two or three years to give the course a real feel.

You can sign up as a guest with either Hua Hin Golf Society ( Bernies Bar) or the Buterfly Rock Golf Club ( Limelight Bar) who play at different courses each week and also enjoy reduced green fees.

Lakeview membership for 13 years is Bht 220,000 which is goog value if you play regularly and compare to the green fee of Bht2,500. PET
