DO THAIS LKE FORIEGNERS????

Post by BEARHUG »

Minister cool on IT

Comworld 2007 gave a welcome lift to IT vendors and many shops within Siam Paragon after the retail sector had been in a relatively gloomy state since the New Year bombs went off. But the event did not get such a good welcome from ICT Minister Sithichai Pokaiudom.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, the minister said that it was wrong of Thai people to admire modern technology, which was not developed by Thai people. "It is a fake development because the country is now getting worse as almost everything at the exhibition here is imported and nothing is made by Thais," he said.

The minister stated that "Thai computers" should mean Thais producing component parts, not just assembling, and that they should also design the products.

"It is sad that today we cannot find any Thai products. The technology show here provides foreigners an opportunity to take money from Thai people. To be truly proud, it should show technology that has been developed by Thais," the ICT Minister said.

Hopefully his address was a call for Thai people to become better educated, organized and inventive in order to achieve what he preaches, and for the Education Ministry to make all that possible.

If it was simply yet another xeneophobic rant, then this place indeed needs to be colonized for a century or so, should have happened a long time ago. Pete

I’m sure he could have found some Thai produced, copy software, if he had looked under the counters.

This so-called "Minister" seems to be far away from any reality! I never saw, that foreigners take money from Thai people...I just see that money is normally running from foreigners to Thai people ... mostly without any real equivalent!!!!!

If they want to develop products by their own, which fit international standards and desires, they should become educated at first, so that they are able to handle this challenge someday.

It's easy to talk nonsense around and make simple people believe this bullshit. This guy should better start to invest money into a proper and free education-system, but if Thai people become really more educated one day, he would lose his comfortable job, huh?

Wtf ... :guns: :guns: :guns:

Politicians have always been known for talking bollocks, it should be "Do Thai politicians like foreigners ... followed by an emphatic NO!"

In terms of technology if the politicians weren't so bloody paranoid that they have to censor the internet and hinder technological advancement in Thailand by never upgrading their infrastructure and fattening their pockets instead what can they expect? They want a population of submissive rice farmers right? ... easier to control.

You know, I really think that even Ministers at the highest levels are having a hard time understanding and implementing this "self sufficiency" form of government. What I can see from articles, they all seem to interpret it as isolation and non integration of just about any kind.

I'm in the midst of a political swing mentally, concerning my Thailand thinking, away from what we're experiencing now. Pete

The point is, that this "self-sufficiency economic theory" is just a philosophy!!!!
The concept is, that the economy should grow only by using funds that not exceeding all assets.
The main-idea was to protect Thai people, especially the poorest.
We all know how easy it was for Thais to get loans in the last years, which are far more than their personal income or property.
They spent these loans for "status-symbols" mostly, which hadn't any positive effects for the TH-Economy.

To make a long story small…
As I said, the "localism" is just a philosophy and has to go hand in hand with education, morality and modesty.
Here the philosophy failed, because the reality is different.... especially in the Thai-Society.
(In my eyes it wouldn't work very well in western countries, too)

The best proofs are high-ranking politicians, which babble nonsense around in regards of this philosophy, because of their own limited education.

The odd one or two here! I was going to comment about this yesterday, and then, low and behold, it is in todays Bangkok Post. I saw this lot a couple of years ago--quite impressive, the paper has photos of some of it.

It’s a shame that some pig headed bloke can try and win votes etc with patriotic BS statements like that rather than making sure the country is being developed in the right direction for Thailand to become a developed country.

Some of these politicians in Thailand should read Lee Kuan Yew’s book and see how’s its done rather than get fat ripping everyone off

If a British politician made a speech stating they wanted less call-centre type jobs in Britain and more interesting jobs which encouraged British people to be more innovative no one would bat an eyelid. Why should a politician saying something similar be any different? You also have to remember his speech was interpreted and a lot can get lost in the translation.

More worryingly, this so-called interim government who are supposed to only be looking after affairs until a proper elected government comes in, is acting as if it is hoping to govern this country in the longer term. Thailand at present is a military state and might be so for longer than most people hoped.

Hogus: You hit the nail on the head. Most of the people who live in the village (where I live) are quite self-sufficient. The loans, i.e. 10,000 baht per family, were mainly spent on a new motocycle (for the kids to go to school on, instead of a bicycle) or the latest mobile. They didn't use the money to make more money. They still carry on their lives as they have done, and have now got to pay back 10,100 baht at the end of the year. Call in Mr. Loan Shark. Who probably, coincidently, happens to be the Pu Yai Baan (village head). Who wins?

I try my best to not buy anything electrical made in Thailand. It will self-destruct before the warranty expires (because of mai pen rai in the factories). Trying to get it repaired/replaced is impossible. I won't even begin to tell the story about our hugely expensive Electrolux cooker. :cuss:

'Self' - sufficiency is great if the self is able to do it. Sadly, I don't think Thailand's up to it at the moment.

I thought that the first seven posts were spot on and spoke truthfully about the situation Thailand is facing or has faced for a long time.
The truth is, a lot of rich Chinese run this country and the Thais' can't see it. Xenophobia spread by the "Chinese Thais'" rules! :D
Rant over.

Democracy will be fully restored in the shortest time possible and the kingdom will always have an open door to foreign investors, Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont reaffirmed at his meeting with Australian Ambassador to Thailand William Paterson.

A teaser from BKK-Post, but link din't work, fell free to try later
